Ambassadors for Christ
You are an Ambassador. 2 Corinthians 5:20, Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
An ambassador is to represents his country faithfully in a foreign land. He stands in the place of his king. Everything he does reflects on the one who sent him. The honour and reputation of his country are in his hands
An ambassador is an agent – he acts on behalf of another. He can act with the full authority of the government on certain matters.
An ambassador is a spokesman. He is there to stand for and proclaim the nation’s viewpoint, as a messenger. Not there to represent himself or his own views.
As a Christian you are called to be an ambassador for Christ. To represent King Jesus in your daily life – to represent Him before others. And to speak for Him, in your conversation.
You are given a special commission, You represent Jesus Christ, as a representative of THE KING OF KINGS. We belong to Heaven. We are strangers here. We represent the interests of our nation here.
Our primary allegiance is not to any earthly power, but to Christ. We are called to be ambassadors in this materialistic world.
An ambassador is a foreigner; a Temporary Resident – not a citizen of the country where he is sent. His loyalty is to where he holds citizenship. We are citizens of heaven (Phil. 3:20). We are foreigners in the world.
The Church is the Embassy of Heaven on planet earth. We have a bit of our homeland on foreign soil.
An ambassador is given written instructions– the Bible is our policy and guide for living as ambassadors.
An ambassador helps people to EMIGRATE to his country. As messengers – Christ pleads through us. The world needs to hear the message of our King loudly and clearly. This message is committed to every believer: Reconciliation. God is urging through us: Be Reconciled to God.
Are you a faithful representative? Are you serving for the embassy of Heaven - the Church? Are you following the ambassador’s guide and policy? Are you helping people emigrate to our homeland? Are you faithfully relaying the Message of Heaven?

There’s some simple realities - eternal truths that matter.
Satan’s agenda has always been deception – and confusion. Paul warns: 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
There’s about 4,300 religions in the world – and about 40,000 denominations within ‘Christianity’. It sounds complex and confusing. At the time of Christ the Jewish tradition counted 613 laws in the Torah that the people had to keep - plus the tradition of the scribes. It was a complex religious system. Yet Paul tells of a simplicity that is IN CHRIST.
Language is simply 26 letters. Music is just 7 notes. All colour is from 3 basic colours: red, blue and yellow. Even with atoms – which make up the entire universe - there are only 20 basic kinds.
Scripture shows us simple truths. Such as: how to be saved. The Gospel is clear, and pure. God has made it plain and simple.
Salvation is the greatest need of humanity. It is a universal need. That’s why we need the Gospel - the Good News about the Saviour. The Gospel is simple. Paul defined it: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Salvation is the work of God. It is God’s gift that we receive. The gracious promise of God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It is simple enough for a child to understand! We can trust the Saviour and His complete work of salvation. There is full forgiveness. Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; God has a rich treasure store of grace. God’s salvation is a forever transaction. The salvation we can know is based on the Simple Gospel. It is not a complex system of man’s efforts.
The Gospel is described as the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes (Romans 1:16).
The Bible is the story of Grace. Either we are in grace or ungrace. We have to humbly receive the saving work of God on our part…
The Lord commends a child-like faith. To simple trust, to receive, to believe.
The whole Christian life is Grace - from beginning to end. It is all about receiving Him. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Avoidance: Avoidance/avoidant coping or escape coping is a maladaptive coping mechanism characterized by the effort to avoid dealing with a stressor. Coping refers to behaviors that attempt to protect oneself from perceived damage. A person who suffers from PTSD is more than twice as likely to divorce or separate from their spouse. The inability to handle conflicts is a major cause of divorce.
God created us for relationships. Unresolved conflict robs us of the joy that healthy Christian relationships bring.
Conflict is inevitable. No relationship of any type is immune. But when we deal with conflict biblically, it can serve as the catalyst that fixes the relationship. The Lord dealt with conflicts head-on and immediately. “Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” ~Matthew 5:23–24.
The Lord deals with conflict as a sin and points out that a gift to Him, from someone who is avoiding conflict, is unacceptable. We need to deal with conflict immediately in order to remain in fellowship with our Lord. The Lord looks at conflict and hates it; He wants it resolved, for the sake of fellowship with His people.
In most cases, going to a person with whom you have a conflict and talking it over with love will resolve it. If we submit to the Lord’s plan, we will receive His blessings. There is no excuse to live with unresolved conflict. He gives a way out. Follow your orders and move out smartly. Trust Him and implement His plan. Matthew 18:15–17. First, if there is a person you’re having a conflict with, go to them as soon as possible and address the issues face to face. Avoid involving anyone else. Next, if you cannot resolve the disagreement, grab a couple of folks from church and try to resolve the problem. If the person still does not respond, give it to the Lord. In the Lord’s eyes you are free of the conflict.
Apathy.
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns…” ~Proverbs 15:19. Many people with PTSD have the symptom of apathy. Apathy is: “Want of feeling; an utter privation of passion, or insensibility to pain; applied either to the body or the mind.”
Apathy - laziness, slothfulness, or indifference - is the opposite of God’s design for our lives. Apathy is giving up, and that never is acceptable.
SELF-HARM/SELF HANDICAPPING
Definition of Self-harming refers to a person harming his/her own body on purpose. Other terms for self-harm are "self-abuse" or "cutting." Overall, a person who self-harms does not mean to kill himself or herself. Self-handicapping behaviors (impulsive behavior) refers to a self - sabotaging behavior.
1 Corinthians 6:19 - 20 - “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
2 Corinthians 6:16 - …ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Mark 5:5 - And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
Leviticus 19:28 - Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
About 2% to 6% engage in self-harm some point in their lives. Rates of self-harm are higher among those in treatment for mental health problems.
Often those who self-harm have low self-esteem, and they do not tend to express their feelings. Self-harmers, as compared to others, have more frequent and more negative feelings such as fear or worry, depression, and aggressive impulses. The most common reasons people do self-harm are to distract themselves from painful feelings or to punish themselves.
Cutting, skin-carving, severe scratching, head-banging, and punching oneself are some of the most common methods of self-injury.
Self-handicapping behaviors: Impulsive behaviors are those that occur quickly without control, planning, or consideration of the consequences of that behavior. Impulsive behaviors tend to relate to immediate positive consequences (for example, relief from emotional pain).

Biblical typology is the biblical study of types. A type is a figure or representation of something to come. Typology is a method of biblical interpretation - the Old Testament speaks of Christ through types and prophecies.
There are about 100 types in the scriptures. There are well over 40 types of Christ in the Bible. There is the type and the reality of the type, the fulfilmentm which is called the antitype. "The New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old is made manifest in the New."
The Tabernacle is especially focused on redemption. The Tabernacle was a portable place of worship. It is is an example, a shadow of the heavenly things - Hebrews 8:5.
The Tabernacle was set up as the basic system of worship in Israel. It was the place of worship. The Tabernacle portrays God's dwelling place - the place where man meets God. It also provides revelation of the person and work of Christ.
The Tabernacle was given by God as a display of truth. Each item in the Tabernacle served as a visual aid, reminding God's people of his character and his grace.
The Altar - He saves
The Laver - He cleanses
Lampstand - He gives light
Showbread - He fellowships
Tabernacle - He lives among
The Curtain - He is separate
Incense - He hears
The Ark - He reigns over His people.
Different materials were used and all have significance:
Bronze/Brass - Judgment
Silver - Redemption
Gold - Deity - the Glory of God
Wood - Humanity.
There were five kinds of Sacrifices. Each coevred a different aspect of God dealing with sin:
The Burnt Offering
The Grain Offering
The Peace Offering
The Sin Offering
The Trespass Offering.
The Curtains of the Outer Court represented the righteousness of God; we are separated from God due to our sins.
The Gate to the Outer Court pictures the one and only way to God - through Christ.
There were four layers of material - four colours:
Blue - Deity of Christ - as John’s Gospel (John 20:28)
Purple - Kingship of Christ - as Matthew’s Gospel (Matthew 28:18)
Red - Redemptive work of Christ - as Mark's Gospel (Mark 10:45)
White - total Righteousness of Christ (as Luke’s Gospel (Luke 23:4,14).
The Brazen Altar is a picture of the Lord Jesus - the Lamb of God being offered for the sins of the world. Speaks of the Atonement - of Christ - the Lamb of God.
The Brazen Laver can speak of the washing of water by the Word, or of a confession of our sins before we fellowship.
The Coverings of the tent had four layers:
Badger skin - pictures Humanity
Rams' skin, died red - Redemption
Woven Goat's Hair - Signifies sinlessness
Cherubim embroidered covering (innermost covering) - it was blue, purple, scarlet and white, with cherubim motifs.
The Table of Showbread can signify fellowship with God - and Christ as the Breadv of Life.
The Golden Candlestick was fashioned by beating and represents Christ suffering for the sins of the world.
The Altar of Incense represents intercessory prayer and praise.
The Vail divided between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. It had the four colours again. Only one could pass through this curtain - and only once per year, on the Day of Atonement, when he brought the blood of the sacrificed goat to sprinkle on the lid of the Ark of the Covenant (called the Mercy Seat).
Christ’s body is the curtain or veil through which we approach God. Because of Christ, and the sacrifice He made, all people can enter the Most Holy Place.
The Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat was symbolic of God’s throne in His dwelling place in the Tabernacle. The chest is overlaid with gold - a picture of the person of Jesus - fully man and fully God.
The Mercy Seat represents Christ's work at the cross where He was beaten and shed His blood to remove our sins. Christ's blood is on the Mercy Seat. Christ is our Propitiation (Romans 5:8-9).
Inside the Ark were three objects representing sin:
The tables of the law representing transgression against moral laws - speak of the life our Lord lived on earth, fulfilling the Law in all points.
The pot of manna showed God’s provision - and man’s rejection of provision - The Manna speaks of Christ as the Bread of Life.
Aaron's rod that budded showing rejection of authority - and it speaks of the Lord's resurrection.
Today, Christ is our High Priest who makes intercession for us.
What mattered most of all in the Tabernacle was God’s presence. There was a pillar of cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22). The pillar guided the Israelites during their exodus from Egyptian bondage. The pillar is a picture of God’s faithfulness and a lesson to us that God never leaves nor forsakes His people.

To lament is to cry aloud. It's a passionate expression of grief or sorrow.
Lamentations is very solemn and depressing - yet there's encouragement and hope. Its writer is possibly Jeremiah, "the weeping prophet". It was written after the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by the Babylonians.
Opening Text: Lamentations 3:1-18. Note, V. 18, And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD.
What a picture of despair and hopelessness - of misery, discouragement, sorrow and grief! The writer is in the pits.
It's easy to get down when tragedies or calamities come, or things don't go how we want. Feelings and emotions can take control, or we spiral downwards into despair. We've all been in such dark times.
What was it that brought hope out of all this depression and self-pity? Lamentations 3:21-26, This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. (22) It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (24) The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. (25) The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. (26) It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
If you're ever in depression, anxious, or defeated in your Christian Life this can be a big help - in directing our thoughts from self to God. It's an active, deliberate action to take.
The writer recalls to mind the mercies and compassions of God. The faithfulness and goodness of God. He recalls the nature of God - what He has done for us.
Psalms 103:8-14 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. (9) He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. (10) He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. (11) For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. (12) As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. (13) Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. (14) For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
God has not dealt with us after our sins. Psalms 78:38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
One of God's characteristics is that He never changes. He's immutable. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
James 1:17 says of Him, With whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. God doesn't change. And what God promises, He does. We can depend on Him. He'll never fail you. He is totally dependable and trustworthy.
If you're going to recall something to your mind you first have to put it in there - into our memory bank. We need to read His Word and study. We need to meditate upon it, and memorise it. Your competency or your strength is proportional to the effort you put in, so we have to work at it.
Of Paul and Silas, we read that, at midnight, they prayed and sang praises unto God, and the prisoners heard them. They'd been beaten with many stripes and cast into prison, with their feet put in stocks. It was a deliberate response for them - as with Jeremiah - to turn away from their feelings and self focus, and lift praises towards God. Rather than a natural response, they had a spiritual one.
Though we're feeling down, we can make a deliberate decision to look towards God.
We read of hope - it is our confident expectation of what God has promised. God's mercies and compassions are there for us, every time we wake up. God is my portion - forever. Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Psalms 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
We can turn from despair and discouragement towards a hope that is founded upon God and His nature. We can learn to rest upon the mercies and compassions of God, rather than our own feelings. Recall to mind the mercies and faithfulness of our God.
May we stop focusing on our feelings... 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
As Jim Berg says, stop listening to that little voice in our head - the one that is generally whispering all kinds of negative or wrong things. Get rid of those thoughts that are going to drag us down.
May we recall to our mind the great blessings and hope we have as a believer. When trials come, recall that God knows all things, what we need, and what we can endure.
God's forgiveness is so much greater than any of our sin can ever be.
Our Lord has not left us without hope. Lamentations 3:21, This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

Elijah was a mighty prophet, yet he was very human. His journey included a time of great depression and discouragement. Elijah ran to the wilderness and sat under a juniper tree.
One in five Australians experienced a mental disorder in the last 12 months. The Australian Bureau of Statistics say 2.1 million Australians, or 9.3 per cent of our population are suffering from some form of depression.
Elijah knew what depression felt like. Discouragement. Like the psalmist in Psalm 42, he felt overwhelmed - all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
Elijah had been through a lot… the dry brook, the empty barrel, the dead boy, the prophets of Baal, the lack of rain. He had seen the Lord do wonders. At Mount Carmel he had confronted the 850 false prophets of Baal and the nation's idolatry. He saw God’s great power and intervention. Fire came down from heaven, and consumed Elijah's sacrifice.
Queen Jezebel threatened his life. Elijah went through deep discouragement and despair. He wanted to run away from it all. Discouragement can be powerful.You could call it “Emotion sickness”. People like David, like Job have experienced discouragement.1 Kings 19:4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.Elijah sits under the juniper tree. He cries out: I have had enough! He wanted to quit. Take my life!
Have you had a juniper tree moment? “I feel like giving up!”Isolation can often deepen discouragement. Don't be afraid to reach out. Share your burden. Reach out to others who can offer support, encourage, and pray for you.Elijah’s cry to God sounds quite desperate. God invites us to pour out our hearts to Him. Tell Him your emotions, doubts, and struggles. Know that your God given purpose is greater than your current circumstances. God's plans are bigger than our problems.

Have you ever had a Juniper Tree moment?1 Kings 19:5-6 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. (6) And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.In the depths of his discouragement, Elijah seeks refuge in the wilderness, where God graciously ministers to him. He was tired. He got nourishment and rest.
God refreshed him. Rely on God’s sustaining power. Rely on God's provision. 1 Kings 19:7-8 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. (8) And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
Don’t give in to despair. Don’t stay under the juniper tree, in the wilderness, the place of discouragement, weakness and doubt.
God speaks to Elijah in a gentle whisper, demonstrating His presence and reassurance. The journey is too great for thee. Believer, you can know that God meets you in your lowest moments.Elijah needed to hear from God. He had been listening to the word of discouragement - but he needed to hear the Word of the Lord.God looks at you and He says, What doest thou here?
God meets with us, wherever we are at. Even while we are in the midst of our own pity party. Depression can paralyse people.
Trust in His provision and guidance to lead you through. God reassures Elijah of his purpose and calling, despite his feelings of inadequacy and despair. The still, small voice. He brings comfort by His Word. It’s the still, small voice. Romans 15:4 ...we through ...comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

You are not alone. Being isolated from other believers is not good for us.God renewed Elijah’s hope and faith. He gave Elijah a new mission, a fresh hope.Are you under the juniper tree? God can meet with you. Pour out your heart to God in prayer. Hear His voice. It’s still, small. You have to listen.God meets us in our weakness with His gentle word. Our disappointment may be His appointment… God is not through with us. Discouragement is where courage gets taken away. God can give it back. Elijah got his courage back. He stopped sitting under the jumper tree.
We all have a divine assignment to fulfil. What are you doing here?Like Elijah, if you will hear the word of the Lord, get up out of your cave and go… the power of God will come upon you again.

Who are Church For You - and what's it all about?
Church For You is a Bible believing church which is in fellowship with other like-minded independent Baptist churches within Australia. The Church upholds Bible truth and declares the soul-saving Gospel of Christ.
Church For You is founded for the glory of God, as a Christ-centred, Bible-based ministry. It started in February 1999, with eight people at its first service at a school in Craigmore. We’ve been meeting at our present home in Elizabeth Park, South Australia, since October 2001.
The church has various outreach and fellowship opportunities. In all things our aim is to bring honour to the Lord Jesus Christ in sharing the Gospel with our community. There are ministries for families, men, women, youth, and children.
Church For You is committed to reaching the world by all scriptural means, and being a caring family of believers together. We present the Lord Jesus Christ and His wonderful saving Message. We love to preach the Good News of God's grace found in the precious pages of the Holy Bible, which is what leads us in faith and life. You can know personally this vital message for life of Christ’s wonderful work of salvation, by God's grace, through faith.
The church upholds orthodox Biblical doctrine. We uphold the authority of the Bible, as the inspired, inerrant, eternal Word of God. We believe in the one God, manifested in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Christ is God manifest in the flesh - fully God and fully man. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment. He regenerates men and sanctifies the believer for a holy life.
The local New Testament Church is an assembly of believers gathered together in worship, prayer, and fellowship. We are actively engaged in the proclamation of the Gospel. The church opposes worldliness and apostasy.
We believe in a blessed Heaven for the saved, and a dread Hell for the lost. Mankind has fallen into sin, and our only way for forgiveness and salvation is wholly of the grace of God through Jesus Christ's shed blood and substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is freely offered to all mankind. Believers are called with a holy calling - holiness is God's standard of living for His people. Christ's coming is the believer's sure hope. It is an incentive to holy living and faithful service, to be ready to meet Him when He comes.
