FLAX GAME ENGINE #00 : Features review and TEST DRIVE
Welcome to a possible new serie of tutorials on a new game engine that has reached its version 1.0 and that is looking rather promising from a point of view of quality, features and performance.
The engine is FLAX ENGINE, an engine that has been in development for the last 5 years from a team based in Poland. This week, version 1.0 has been released and we decided to take a new look at it, since the last time that we had seen it, was about 1 year ago, and it was still somewhat green.
The engine is now much more stable and very performant and with a very interesting and promising development pipeline. You can not only program in C++ or C# but you have also visual scripting in a way that looks very similar to Unreal 4.

In this video, we are going to keep adjusting the gameplay and start fixing some of the bugs that we are still having in the game, which have been reported by some of the people trying to keep up with the tutorial.
Closing a fun videogame is one of the most difficult tasks that you can find in the industry, and this process that we are starting will probably be taking us two or three videos just to reach a point where we have a fun and free from bugs software. At that point, we will be able to start thinking about what next toward expanding into new levels or to export into different platforms.
If you want to learn how to make or design games, you have come to the right place. We are taking the full process to new levels. We are checking on the mechanics that we are implemented and then testing them in the game to make sure they are working correctly. So this is a really good course to learn on how to develop games.
We will upload all the new assets to to the ITCHIO and we are thinking in opening a Github for the project, let us know which you like the most in the comments below.

GDEVELOP FREE VISUAL Game Engine Examples: CHROMADEFENSE
A new review on a G DEVELOP game, and in this case an interesting space shooter where your lasers have different colors that affect different enemies.

Our honest feedback
Chroma Defense is a very interesting concept that plays around with the idea of using colors to map the capacities of the player to face the challenges in the level. In this case, with the match between colors and enemies.
The proposal is interesting, but after a while the game becomes very repetitive as the only element that is changing is the speed at which the enemy spaceships are spawning and travelling toward the player.
More variety in the enemies and their movements, in the level maps could have been interesting. But nonetheless, the idea has potential to be developed.
Chroma Defense has been created for Mini Jam 62. The theme was "Colors" and the limitation was to use only two frames in any animation.

Our honest feedback
The has a really cool look & feel with a very interesting color palette based on black & White scheme that makes it unique. The music is really a good element to building the overall mood of the game and give it a nostalgic feel.
The game itself is correctly build, although some times the level design is somewhat poor, as it is not very evident what do next or where to go. Once you get the grip and know the simple mechanic that controls the game, you know then that you have to look for an exit in the screen.
The transition between animations sometimes is somewhat rude, but the animation themselves are also correctly done and contributes to the overall good taste that game leaves in the players.
It is somewhat short, and we are not sure if the developer is still working on it.

The first game from a new game developer trying to get his way in the games industry, with a small game that is more focused on improving his skills than actually to be fully finished. With this introduction, you could think that the game is louzy :) but quite the opposite.
The game is still rough, but has a lot of potential and is actually fun to play. Don´t expect too much, no sound effects, no music, gameplay at its pure essence.
The number levels is very small, and we hope that the developer actually expands on it as to be able to check how the mechanics can hold to the expanding the different levels.
Visually talking, the game has a really great greyish palette with some shadows being casted by the platforms. The character design is very minimalist but is nice too look at it.
When we saw the game, due to the level layout, we thought that as in some other games, the level would actually rotate around, but no, you basically jump your way through the level find the key that opens the door, and then access it to move to the next level.
