Welcome to part 2 of my Studio Upgrade. In part 1 I changed the look of what you see in the shot but in this video I change around what's behind the lens.
From changing up the lighting to finally securing the camera on a tripod, I do a lot of things I should have done 3 years ago when I launched this channel. I originally only committed to 100 episodes with a new video launching every 3 days but after I reached my goal, I kept going. My bug to continue teaching tricks of the trade that sound pros don't often share with non-pros still hasn't been satisfied so it was time to put some money into the look of the channel.
In this episode we revisit the Sound In Air Versus Water video located at: https://youtu.be/JUJtMygi-fo. In short, we're comparing the fidelity of close noises to those farther away in air and water when boosted up to 0db. Enjoy!

There are few things that are more uncomfortable than wet feet when you're on set. You're probably already exhausted from long days and then have to deal with rain and water while trying to move equipment that doesn't want to move places it doesn't want to go. If you're a boom operator, camera operator or anyone else that has to move during a scene in and/or near water, then you probably work hard to keep your feet dry. Nobody wants blisters and raw achy feet due to prolonged water exposure.
One of the things I've spent a lot of time on is making my job easier whenever possible and keeping my feet wet in any circumstance is very high on my list. In this video I'm going to demonstrate four different things I do to keep my feet dry on set. These are all products I spent my own money on and received no compensation from anyone for putting them in this video.
Below is a list of products I own or use and showed in this video(or similar + variations):
Silicone Shoe/Boot Covers: https://geni.us/SiliconeCovers
Body Glove Water Shoes (Similar To Mine): https://geni.us/BodyGlove1
Body Glove Water Shoes (Better Model): https://geni.us/BodyGlove2
Merrell Moab Water Hiking Shoe (Similar To Mine): https://geni.us/MerrellMoab
Waterfly Waterproof Socks (As Demonstrated): https://geni.us/WaterflySocks
Neos Overshoe Adventurer (Identical to mine): https://geni.us/Neos1
Neos Overshoe Villager (Doesn't Go Up The Leg As Far): https://geni.us/Neos2
Neos Overshoe Navigator (Insulated For Cold Weather): https://geni.us/Neos3
Neos Overshoe Voyager (Goes Up The Leg Less Than The Villager): https://geni.us/Neos4
Below is a list of alternative options that I haven't tested but am thinking about trying:
Ushth Overshoe (Like Neos but thinner and much cheaper): https://geni.us/UshthCover
Arunner Shoe Cover (Another discount shoe cover similar to Neos): https://geni.us/ArunnerShoeCover
Tingley Rubber Overshoe (harder than the silicone overshoe): https://geni.us/RubberOvershoe
Ranger Rubber Overshoe (A better rubber overshoe than Tingley): https://geni.us/RangerOvershoe

To download Matt Price's Boom Pole Cheat Sheet:
https://www.soundrolling.com/compare-126-different-boom-pole-specs
Buying a boom pole can be very stressful. As a boom operator you aren't catered to like a sound mixer so you may not have every manufacturer's boom poles available to you to test. If you don't live around a pro sound shop, you can try buying online but there's a high probability you'll not know if you like pole until you swing it around and if you don't, you have to pay for shipping to return it only to start the process over again.
In this video I won't be telling you which boom pole is best but I will go over various things for you to contemplate when buying a boom pole. You'll also learn what questions you should ask yourself and the sound shop you'd buy from before you buy.
If you have any questions or comments about boom poles, feel free to write them in the comments below.

It's the curse of the perfectionist to nit pick something way past deadlines but to YouTube content producers, you have to eventually settle on your edit and release your video. As time passes if any part of your video begins to cause you any kind of stress or frustration, you have an amazing solution at your fingertips!
It may seem appropriate to leave your video the way it is but there are many reasons you should trim it. One common example is live streamers who stream directly to YouTube. If, for example, you upload your locally recorded video after doing your stream, that video won't have all the view time, views, likes, shares, etc that your live stream did and to many streamers, that's not appealing. This is where the YouTube Trim Tool can really come in handy so pay close attention as I show you how easy it is to use.

Welcome to the ninth episode of the Speed Bumps Podcast. One question people often ask is if they record audio, do they need a mixer. There is a lot of confusion around this question so I'll tackle it in this episode. We'll also be discussing detail in microphones and how different patterns affect it.
Production notes:
I ran Clarity VX Pro processing around 45% again this week and was pretty pleased with the results. I also state that I ran the Wyze Cam v3 video footage thru Topaz AI Video Enhancer but it didn't do hardly anything so I scrapped that process in post.

Direct sunlight is harsh and unforgiving to a boom operator. Trying to get the boom close to the actor's face without shadowing can be difficult unless you know the secret. Sound Speeds!
Special thanks to boom operator Hugo Kundert for his help with the technique demonstration.

It may surprise you to hear but regardless of the the budget of the production you're working on, the expectations of your sound department is the exact same. Not the rates, politics, production values... just expectations. Lav mics have to be clean, the signal to noise ratio needs to be high, boom mics have to be close to the actor's heads and on mic... if they aren't, the audience would notice if it made it into the show. Post will correct that which is not good enough but does your production have enough money for post audio sweetening or dialogue replacement? Maybe, maybe not but regardless... there are expectations of you and if you fail to deliver them... Yikes!

Buckle up because we're not wasting any time in this video. Yes, it's fast paced but it's full of information so don't be afraid to watch thru once and then watch again pausing to read when needed.
There are quite a few ways to get your voice (singing, voiceover, etc) into your computer and in this video, I'm showing you the 3 main ways of doing so. Each contains their own pros and cons so consider them when deciding what you want to buy and what way will be best for you.
