Evan Thomas - Being Nixon
In this Sunnylands Lecture Series event, author Evan Thomas discusses his recent book Being Nixon: A Man Divided. Thomas' account of Nixon peels away the layers of a complex, paradoxical man who became the thirty-seventh president of the United States. The Chicago Tribune hails Being Nixon as a "biography of eloquence and breadth...No single volume about Nixon's long and interesting life could be so comprehensive."
Evan Thomas was a writer, correspondent, and editor for thirty-three years at Time and Newsweek, including ten years (1986-96) as Washington Bureau Chief at Newsweek, where, at the time of his retirement in 2010, he was editor at large. He wrote more than 100 cover stories and in 1999 won a National Magazine Award. The author of dozens of book reviews for The New York Times and The Washington Post, Mr. Thomas has taught writing and journalism at Harvard and Princeton, where, from 2007 to 2014, he was Ferris Professor of Journalism.

Pianist Jonathan Mamora is a native Southern Californian who began his piano studies at the age of four. He joined the studio of Elvin Rodríguez eight years later and continued studying with Rodríguez throughout his undergraduate studies at La Sierra University, where he received his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in 2017 as a member of the University Honors Program. In 2019, he received his Master of Music in Piano at The Juilliard School, where he studied with Hung-Kuan Chen and also served as a Teaching Fellow for Ear Training. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. Mamora has served as a pianist and organist at several churches throughout his life and strives to uplift and positively influence others using music as a means of service not only through the church, but also in the community through homes, schools, community centers, and concert halls.
