Day 3 took us to Wet'n'Wild. Given it was pretty quiet we didn't have massive crowds to deal with so we had a really good day. One of the things that seems to be a bit lacking at the moment is the really fast thrill slides with huge drops where you reach high speeds. That being said, we were able to do slides like Kamikaze and Tornado as many times as we wanted and they are always fun. I always enjoy riding on slides in the dark and so Black Hole is one of my favorite water slides and for the first time got to try Super Ripper which is quite good fun. For the first time I tried body boarding on the Flow Rider with mixed results. Keryn got a good laugh at some of my wipe outs!
In the evening we went to Slideways which is a 3 level GoKart track which as the name suggests, you slide (drift) in the corners. I'm more of a bitumin driver so wasn't going with high expectations but I have to say that I had an absolute blast and really enjoyed it. Within a couple of sessions I was doing reasonable lap times too so had we more time on this trip I would really like to have gone back there. Highly recommended.

For the last video in this series we visit Dreamworld which we found to be in the process of a major upgrade. The following day for the last theme park on this trip we visited WhiteWater World (another water park). Following my enjoyment of riding the Giant Drop at Dreamworld 11 times I started seriously considering the idea of taking up skydiving and whilst I didn't plan to do that on this trip, I found they have an indoor skydiving simulater called iFly so we went there and gave that a go. We spent our last evening on the Gold Coast on this trip enjoying the sunset from the observation deck at SkyPoint.
We had a really good time during this trip. It was planned at very short notice and yet we felt we crammed as much action into that time as we could so if you're looking for a short gettaway that is full of excitement within Australia, it's hard to go past the Gold Coast. Hope you enjoyed sharing some of the highlights of our trip with us.

Recently I felt like 'keeping it real' over a good glass of wine with my first movie synopsis and recommendation. Logan's Run (1976).
I haven't done one of these types of videos before, but it felt there is a lot to talk about in this movie. Starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter and a host of other familiar faces making appearances and based on a 1967 science fiction novel it depicts a utopian future society where everyone seems to be happy, but things are just a bit too good to be true. It's a thought-provoking movie that is worth watching for those who haven't.

At the time I made this video we thought we had found our new boat. This came about due to the last episode that showed our search and some fellow club members advised us that their boat was also now for sail.
'Conquista' is a beautiful Spencer 30 that would have suited us perfectly. As it is bright red, it's hard to miss.

During the last few months I've been getting back into the racing side of Go Karting. When you start racing under Karting Australia (or in my case when you re-start racing after a long absence) you are required to do your first 4 race meetings displaying "P" plates and you need to complete 75% of the laps to a standard acceptable to the officials. We also decided that we would try and race on as many different local tracks and layouts as possible during this 'rookie' period and get a bit of experience under the belt early. Now that we have done that and the "P's" have come off, I thought this would be a good time to give you an update on how our first kart races have gone.

Some years ago I wrote a 6,000 article in favor of Solo Scuba Diving. If you are interested grab a good cup of coffee (or something stronger) and have a read:
https://www.ozinpictures.com/2015/12/he-supports-solo-diving-burn-the-witch-2
I wasn't sure how it would be received but it was well researched and ultimately built on the arguments that many others had made. All the feedback I got was very positive. It turned out that many others felt the same way.
I never really made a secret to others that I also freedived solo in certain situations. If doing scuba solo was controversial then freediving solo was even more controversial. But I don't think it should be. I have always adopted solid risk management but rather than a black and white approach, mine is a sliding scale, depending on what kind of freediving I'm doing. It's no different to most of the other activities I do. All are done solo at some stage and the reality is everyone I know does the same (they just don't talk as openly about it). As the complexity of the dive increases (with respect to depth, duration, environment and weather), then so too does my risk management that I put in place. So it's not that I don't use buddies but I treat dives to 20 metres (or in more challenging conditions) different to a relaxed 5 metre dive next to a jetty to look at the fish. I thought I would discuss this subject in this video before going freediving around the jetty at Port Noarlunga.

Day 2 on our trip to the Gold Coast took us to our first theme park, Warner Brothers Movie World. Generally, this is a favorite to the public. It has a few first-class roller coasts, in particular the DC Rivals Hypercoaster which with a drop over 200 feet has to be the best rollercoaster currently in Australia. We also feature the Wild West Falls and some of the other attractions in this video.

The Scuderia Ferrari Club Adelaide have been running hire kart events for some time. This year it has evolved into a South Australian State Championship with events and various hire kart venues. Round 2 was held at Xtreme Karts & Leisure near Gawler. I had the opportunity to video one of the finals which was an eventful 40 lap race.
During the day I also had the opportunity to have a conversation with the President of the club who is one of those who made the transition in the last few years from hire kart racing to proper 4 stroke racing in the relatively new 4SS class. Given that this is now a path that I am on, I'm pretty enthusiastic about some of the work this club are doing to encourage others to do the same at an affordable price.

I recently got my personalised Xkarts sticker kit that was made for me by Brett and his team at Screen FX in Alberton. It's based on the colors on the signage and shirts at Xkarts and Leisure in Gawler, who have been supporting me in my return to Go Karting. I've always liked the colours. Predominantly black with the name in blue (with just a touch of white) and we did something subtle with the black for the sticker kit that I thought made it look interesting whilst keeping it simple in the same way that the memorable F1 liveries of the 80's were really effective. I think it's a great sticker kit. The only thing I may do different next time Is adding something to the front and the petrol tank.
I've never put one of these on before and there's a bit of an art to it. I thought we did a reasonable job for the first attempt and hopefully we will improve with updated sticker kits (in which I plan on tweaking the design) in the future.

As I'm asked from time to time about some of my interests in the past, I thought I would upload some of my diving vidoes (which are mainly visual) with introductions and perhaps I'll do some commentry in some of them too. This was one I made that was never intended to be uploaded as it was put together from throw away footage in bad visibility when I was testing my sidemount harness. What it does show is that even though this was only the third dive I did with it (and it was before I ever took it into an overhead environment), the potential was clearly evident and I never went back to backmount diving in a cave after diving in it.
