Police officer hands out Cookies to Protesting Farmers in Brussels
A police officer treats protesters outside the European Parliament building to cookies. Perhaps the only touching moment in Last Thursday farmers' protest action.

Police unions express support for the farmers and accompany them in the fight.

The Belgian police union VSOA has published an open letter expressing its support for all farmers 'during these difficult times'.

In recent years, you have had to deal with increasingly strict regulations and sharply rising costs, imposed by the political authorities, notes the police union.

"We understand your anger towards a government that does not keep to agreements, and remains apathetic to your call to anchor and guarantee the future of agriculture in Belgium."

This government is committing nothing more or less than 'breaking its word', and this while trust in politics is already at an all-time low, the police union emphasizes.

"As a police union, we recognize this all too well and share your anger. Add to that a sauce of arrogance and an unworldly view of reality, and it should come as no surprise why people dislike the traditional parties that have been running the country for decades," writes the VSOA.

The union indicates that the police services will continue to do their utmost to supervise the farmers' actions so that the message is heard. "We understand and share your sense of frustration with these politicians, and we join you in the fight to denounce it."
