A fada Navi desperta Link de um pesadelo no qual ele testemunha um homem de armadura negra perseguindo uma menina fugindo a cavalo. Navi leva Link à Grande Árvore Deku (Great Deku Tree), que está amaldiçoada e à beira da morte. A Árvore Deku conta a Link que um "homem perverso do deserto" o amaldiçoou e quer dominar o mundo, e que Link deve impedi-lo. Antes de morrer, a Grande Árvore Deku dá a Link a Pedra Espiritual da Floresta e o envia ao Castelo de Hyrule para falar com a princesa

The fairy Navi awakens Link from a nightmare in which he witnesses a man in black armor chasing a fleeing girl on horseback. Navi takes Link to the Great Deku Tree, which is cursed and on the brink of death. The Deku Tree tells Link that an "evil man of the desert" has cursed him and wants to take over the world, and that Link must stop him. Before dying, the Great Deku Tree gives Link the Spirit Stone of the Forest and sends him to Hyrule Castle to speak with the princess.
