This journal entry is from September 13, 2016. That is the million dollar question. What is normal in prison? Unless you have been there, it is very hard to understand. Everything is backwards. People don’t talk to other people for no reason. There is always a motive, an agenda, an angle as to why someone is talking to you. No one is nice, period, in prison. It is so “normal” not to be nice to someone in prison, that when someone is being nice it actually makes that person look very suspicious and untrustworthy. Also, pretty looking men are treated the absolute worst in prison because the average person in prison is so ugly that it makes men feel uncomfortable if they find another man attractive. So, I quickly noticed that typically most of the “pretty boys” are usually bullied, or teased, or isolated and alone. EVERYONE is so miserable and mean and negative and angry all the time, and practically NO ONE is honest inside prison. It is so normal to lie about anything and everything in prison (for no reason at all). So, what is normal in prison? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The culture and the mentality of prison is so bizarre and backwards that it is kind of hard to explain. But what is REALLY insane is that because it is so common from one person to the next, to the next, to the next, all of these strange and unusual traits and habits are actually NORMAL inside prison.
