Backpacking & Wild Camping | Traversing 11 Scottish Mountain Summits.
Backpacking & Wild Camping | Traversing 11 Scottish Mountain Summits.

Had the mad idea to try and complete all 11 Munro summits around Glenshee over 36 Hours with one nights Wildcamp - Full description below.

Did know my latest challenge was going to be hard going but by the time I got to the end I hadn’t realised just how demanding. For the majority of the trip weather was on my side and the scenery stunning as always.

Set off from the upper carpark on the A93 Braemar Road just before the Glenshee Ski Centre. This road is actually the highest ‘A’ road in the UK.

Taking on a route such as this in the Scottish mountains should not be undertaken lightly with fitness, equipment, navigation and weather all have a major impact. Or like me you just have a good few screws loose.

Day one was covering the East side from the Glenshee carpark taking on 6 Munro tops in one large route. The worst of the route is at the end where you have to walk up the steep A93 Braemar Road back up to the Ski Centre complex.

Whilst walking back I have never seen so much roadkill in my life, all in various states of decomposition. Sad side effect of having such a fast road running through the mountains.

After a lovely overnight wild camp with stunning sunset I headed off to tackle the West side. This let me complete a further 4 Munro’s taking my total for the trip to 11 of the blighters. Actually missed out on a couple more as it was getting late and even with the lower number I still didn’t get back to the car until late on the Monday evening.

Overall a fantastic mini adventure and enjoyed every minute of it although suffering and aching for a good part of it. Most folks could do the route a lot quicker and easier, but stopping to film and compose shots takes a lot of time and adds to an already long distance day.

One thing I did learn from the trip is to take a lot higher energy snacks to help boost my energy levels as I did not take nearly enough to eat for the amount of effort required and it did make me feel a bit ill for it.
