Novonix has caught the imagination of the Tesla community recently. Novonix Dry Particle Microgranulation method, AKA DPMG, will allow production of PUREgraphite and Single Crystal Cathode material that is cheaper, higher performance, and environmentally friendly than competing products from China.
This video will be a deep dive and step by step walkthrough of the history of DPMG and a deep dive into the research paper that it was unveiled in. I'll explain exactly how the process works.

Summary at 10:03. This video is a technical deep dive and walkthrough of Teslas new Lithium doping patent application, also known as pre-lithiation. The patent explains how Tesla might be able to elminate first cycle losses, which can be up to 7-10%, with an LNCO high lithium material.
I begin by explaining what first cycle losses are and how they occur. First cycle losses occur due to formation of the solid electrolyte interphase. The solid electrolyte interphase is made of lithium, which prevents that lithium from cycling.
I then explain Tesla's strategy to combat this loss, which inolves adding lithium doped cathode materials that dump their lithium in the first cycle.
Interestingly, Tesla appear to have made an error in their patent application.
I end by explaining that this is in an early stage of development and it's not likely to hit the market soon. I also explain that Maxwell Technologies has a strategy for eliminating first cycle losses, but it's not expected until 2027.
