The jamming never stops - A song request guitar tribute to Frank Zappa
Here's a guy I get compared to, a lot. Most of my jam videos inevitably have comments saying how much I sound like Zappa, which is odd, because he was never an influence on my guitar playing. When I was 16, I had the Apostrophe album, which I used to listen to for laughs, but I never spent any time copying him or trying to sound like him. I was copying Michael Schenker. But since I get these comparisons, I decided to do a tribute album to Frank Zappa as part of my patreon song request series. Normally I do one song, but this time did 5 jams in the one video. This one goes out to Mike who paid for the Zappa jam. You can request any song you want for $100 and get full extended video with dedication!
1. The jamming never stops 0:00 2. Shut up and play your guitar 9:04 3. Shatner's revenge 15:17 4. My guitar wants to kill your grandma 30:31 5. Squirrels ripped my flesh 42:07
Wow. Someone actually stopped to talk to me and voice their appreciation. I checked and yes, Haley's comet was passing by.

Kids are my best audience. They don't drink, they don't do drugs, they don't steal my equipment, and they usually react to music.

I did two tributes to Tina this week. First one was 'Better be good to me' on May 25, then 'Nut street city limits' on May 27/2023 which is the perfect song for where I play. I have been a fan of Turner since the mid 60's when I first heard 'A fool in love' because my Dad played it. That is still my favorite song from her. I used to audition singers with that song, and they all failed the test. In the second video, you will see what I see very day. Addicts lying on the street near me, almost dead. This spot is where they often go to die. I know of two dead in the last month, found right by those boxes. A woman actually stopped to check on the addict, but gets no reaction. (It is extremely rare for people to show concern. for addicts laid out on the street) The woman then calls 911 and you can watch what happens.

Here we are playing the old Carole King song, “it’s too late’. This is a very complex finger style arrangement that I spent days working on. Lots of chords.
This was my last duo gig ever in June 2018. I had worked with about 50 singers in 10 years and Maya was the last, but certainly not the least. I think she was in my top 3 for sure. The Sylvia hotel looks out over the ocean and I had played there many times before with different singers. We always did 2 sets from 8-10pm. Very relaxing and older crowd. The problem is the Sylvia is the last live venue left downtown, (almost all venues closed between 2010-2018) so getting gigs there becomes next to impossible as hundreds of bands all try to get work there. I gave up on duos/bands/trios as no one never lifted a finger to help find work. No one wanted to do the grunge work, and left it all to me. I can count maybe once or twice in 15 years where someone else in the band managed to set up a gig. It was one of the reasons I stopped putting bands together. Too much hassle for too little reward. Busking was a lot easier and more profitable in comparison.
