Hi, I'm Phil Bridges, owner of Straight Arrow Repair. Ever want to know how a repairman fixes things? Well come with me, and I'll show you how I solve problems. Let's make things better together.
I am going to show you a little tip slash trick that I do on occasion that often. Sometimes you get a strange situation. I will show you that situation. And so this is a two by four that will end up being support for the floor. So it's sort of like a floor joists. The floor joists we have our seven and a quarter.
So what I've done is a 2x4 and a 2x4 underneath it. So it's seven and eight. Thing is, I'm sitting on top of the frame, so I with insulation and things like that, it's going to be way more than an eighth, but it should be fitting in there tight. And I'll show you the situation. Pretty strange.
It's like they run a long one there. Anyway. Right here is the area that I don't have any support and I'm going to put support. Now, understand your frame on the inside it's about three foot three, three foot six on the inside wall. So the outside wall will be about four foot maybe less. So, what I've done is this is going to sit on top of the frame if I can get it in there
So what I'm going to do is set it on top of the frame.
"Here let me get in there. So I can video it for you."
So the frame is right there. That's the frame, steel frame. And I will have to cut this bottom piece off a little bit because it's not the floor here slopes down. So it's not true seven and a quarter, and it does the whole all this area all the way down for whatever reason. Probably because the wall sits on in between to joists. I'll cut it down, slip it in, and then I'll put screws right here.
"Like you do this."
Every six inches. It's pretty far pretty long. So it's going to go almost a foot that way, and we can ge a bunch of screws in it. If I wanted to I can go even longer, but you can do that. Even say if I went from that frame to this frame, I could do the same thing then that gives me support in. And by the way, this area right here will not likely get a whole lot of traffic on beyond the fact that this have three quarter plywood.
But because they'll come in and go straight over to the sink slash, they don't walk alongside the wall people, the shoulders, everything they end up, we'll end up walking on this floor joists. So I don't have to have as much seriousness over here as I would say in the hallway, but that's a little trick you can do. As it is, I'm going to have to adjust this one when I cut down like an eighth of an inch or so right here.
And then slip it in till I get it where it's right. And then it's solid. It'll be, when you step right here, it will be solid and top that, the plywood would be carrying it from here to there. It's a little trick. Thought I'd let you know.
This is Phil Bridges, if you like what you saw and think it might be helpful to somebody else, push that like button and let other people know what you and I know, and we'll work together toward making a brighter future. By the way, we're not Amera-Can'ts we're Americans. See you next time.

Transcript:
Now, what I'm going to do first is pull this off, pull this off, and then start pulling all the siding off and that will be where we show you what the wall looks like. When we get that done, we'll take you back to.
Well, here's here it is. We've uncovered the aluminum siding and moved the board over to this level where the window needs to be. We're going to put a new board here because this is pretty bad. I want to support it better under here. This will go all the way up into here. 36 inches up. This is just the mobile home side.
Then we're going to go outside, takes the siding off, take the window out, and maybe take the plywood. I'll open it up first and see what we see. But right now, I'm going to take a Sawzall, and cut right here. And cut right here. That way I can figure out where I need to put in. Quite the journey.
I ended up removing this one over here out of the way, because this 4x4 back here was so far on level and the owner came out and he didn't want me to or she didn't want me to either one move that 4x4. So we moved the whole window over and then went outside and and pulled it all off. So I'm sorry I didn't take you guys along with me.

Transcription:
Well, when it comes to Masonite, that's something that's a very inexpensive material. And I understand fitting the budget. But the problem with Masonite is if you don't maintain it, it swells up like that, this is a Hardie board band they put on to cover over the rotted area. Unfortunately, that's exactly where the ridge beam is, which carries all the floor joists and keeps this house tight.
So this is only Band-Aiding the situation. If you look, this is what happens. It ends up rotting out the floor, which will soak back. And then the 2x6, if you look down in here has rotted out too. So it's that way, all the way. So you need to maintain maybe every year. Masonite If you have a Masonite home, might consider doing vinyl siding.
So you don't have to maintain as much. You still have to maintain everything that requires maintenance. So keep that in mind. When it comes to Masonite home.
