Derick Varn and Douglas Lain discuss the UK election result and work out what their new podcast "Pop the Left" should aim at in 2020. Will the social-democratic turn end up liquidating the Marxist left?
The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.
Chris Nineham answers questions about Brexit, Ireland, Scotland and the possible dissolution of the UK. He also speculates on Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party's reluctance to take political power.

Derick Varn tackles the question of class and differentiates Marx's theory of class from the theory of the PMC which is, after the defeat of Bernie Sanders, so popular on both the left and right today.

Derick Varn and Douglas Lain return to discuss Paul Mattick Sr.'s 1939 essay "Roosevelt's 'New' New Deal."
Paul Mattick was a council communist and left critic of Bolshevism. Mattick was heavily influenced by the work of Henryk Grossman, but unlike Grossman, he was a critic of Leninism. His essay on the New Deal argued that support for the New Deal was crippling the workers movement.

For post-Jungian archetypal psychologist James Hillman, the concept of the ego familiar to the work of Freud, Jung, and other psychoanalytic thinkers maintains a almost tyrannical predominance in the tradition of psychoanalysis. The myth of Hercules looms large over the discipline and our lives writ large. For Hillman undue importance of the ego has precipitated a multitude of psychological, social, and political problems. The solution? A break with the ego's oppositionalism and a deep dive into the world of the imagination.
