She found A House To Die For. Sarah Ann Ricketts (1848-1869) was a beloved English woman who was tragically slain by the monstrous Louisa May Merrifield. Born in Sussex, Sarah was the eldest of seven children and came from an impoverished home. In 1865, she ventured away to chase employment, eventually being employed at a local department store. It was at this store where she encountered her lover Louisa May Merrifield. The relationship between the two women was tumultuous nearly right away, with accounts of physical violence and frequent quarrels. On June 29th, 1869, it is assumed that Sarah was killed by Louisa, who was promptly arrested. The trial went on for four days, with Louisa confessing to the accusations. She was condemned to be executed by hanging, which she took with little resistance. In her last letter before her execution, Louisa wrote that she was sorry for her deeds and that she wished Sarah was still alive. The tragedy of Sarah Ann Ricketts death has been remembered in her small village, where a memorial stone, engraved with her name and placard, was erected by her family.
