Amrithavarshini is a composition of Sri. Muthuswamy Dikshitar on Goddess Bhavani seeking her blessing to shower rain. Set to ragam amrithavarshini and Talam Adi, it is believed that when Dikshitar had started singing, it rained so much that there was a flood and then he had to sing 'sthambaya..sthambaya'' to stop the rain.

Varsha J is a member of ABHAI, Association of Bharatanatyam Artists of India. She is learning Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of M. Lakshmipriya Raja.
She has completed her Prayatnam Level II and was one of the topper from Chennai region. She had won the digital competition held by TIDE- The Indian Dance Experience YouTube Channel and consequently selected to perform in Margazhi 2019, a festival organised by Giri Fine Arts.
She has received the First Prize with A* in AIDA - All India Dance Competition conducted by Nrithyathi Kalakshetram Bhilai, Raipur in Junior category in 2019, Dr. Rukmini Ramani Composition Bharatanatyam in Sep 2018, Sangeetha Saramrutham Music and Dance competition 2019-20 conducted by Nathella Vidhodaya, in the Senior category in FAIMA. Federation of All India marunadan Malayalee Association, Balakalamela 2020 held in Chennai on 1st March 2020.
Other awards received by her are Best Performer for Promising young Talent Award from Sri Parthasarathy Sabha, Nrithya Poornima - Ojas Edition 2 Classical Dance festival organized by Nrithyathi kalakshetram Bhilai and Nrithynjali Bangalore in Jul 2019, Bharat Natya Vyasa Award from Natya Nisada and The House of Earth to Live and Love Foundation, Bangalore.
Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam is one of the 8 classical dance forms of India. Originally from Tamil Nadu, it is now practiced throughout the world and is a popular genre in many Indian Dande Festivals. The Bharatanatyam dancer is accompanied with the Nattuvangam, Violin, Mridangam and the Flute along with the Vocal rendition during a Bharatanatyam performance. Originally performed mainly in temple dance, this Indian dance form has now spread across languages, genres, religion and boundaries. A regular Bharatanatyam repertoire consists of an Alarippu, Jathiswaram, Sabdam, Varnam, Padam and a Thillana. The Tanjore Quartet is supposed to have formulated the present day repertoire.
You must have heard the names - Rukmini Devi, Leela Samson, Priyadarshini Govind, Alarmel Valli, Rukmini Vijaykumar, Parshwanath Upadhyay, The Dhananjayan, Prof C V Chandrasekhar, they all come under eminent Bharatanatyam artistes.
Bharatanatyam is an Important Dance Style and is performed in Indian dance festivals & Indian Cultural Events. Dance has always been an integral form of Indian Heritage, Culture & Tradition. Indian Classical Dance Forms have also found their way into the commercial Indian Film Industry. Dance music videos in various Indian are also inspired by Traditional Dance Forms & Classical Dance Styles.
