This video addresses the difference between Weak AI (or Narrow or task oriented AI) and Strong AI. Strong AI is AI with close to or surpassing human AI. Again it boils down to closing the system: the very act of reducing the function of a system to specific tasks locks the AI system into a qualitatively different domain than natural cognitive systems.

This theory video is about different graphics depictions of agency that become progressively simpler and abstract and eventually connect to core cognition and lead to clear measure of cognitive success.

Dit filmpje laat het effect horen van geluidsbewust bouwen. We vergelijken de drukke Ophelialaan met de beschutte westzijde van het oude Proefstation in Aalsmeer.

This is a fairly abstract lecture that goes to the core of the potential and the limitations of artificial agents. Its title indicates what we do all the time in AI: closing the system. The consequences of this are eluded in this lecture but not addressed.

Adaptive cycle, evolution, biosphere, rule of conservative change, coping mode, co-creation mode, consolidation
This session addresses the adaptive cycle and it relation to the growth of the biosphere. The adaptive cycle underlies the way the biosphere developed through discovering sustainable building blocks that then became the foundations of more advanced processes. Some of these advanced processes are sufficiently sustainable to base even more advanced processes on. Collapses of complex systems into ever more sustainable building blocks drives this. These building blocks are then recombined in creative ways. The more successful innovations are broadly adopted, which leads to a ever more rigid system of controlled agents. When control fails the system breaks down in the (hopefully a bit more ) sustainable building blocks that comprised it. This sustainable building block discovery process allowed the biosphere to be be consolidated.
The adaptive cycle is interpreted as 5 Cs: conserve, create, combine, control & collapse. The adaptive cycle drives every form of development of groups of agents. In fact it was originally formulated in the context of forest development. But it can also be applied to human and even political processes. These are then connected to previous results and illustrated by two short excerpts of speeches by politicians.

This theory video is about the life-paths that sometimes lead to dangerous and unviable situations and hopefully more often lead to unproblematic and high viability situations. This leads to conceptions of understanding that make as much sense for bacteria as for humans.

This presentation, which was given on April 6th, 2024, at Chateau Hodbomont, discusses the formal and informal aspects of Nova Academia's educational vision. The formal vision is based on research on epistemological development that outlines 6 levels of development. Regular universities focus on levels 3 and 4. Nova Academia focuses on levels 4 to 6.
The informal vision is based on the observation that adolescent mental health has deteriorated but that a strong real-world community with minimal smartphone use helps to focus on the development of a sense of self and meaning in life. Hence, this will be central to the informal vision of education.
