Which LoRaWAN Gateway Is Best For Me (Comparison)? Part 2
LoraWAN is a widely used low-power, long-range network that consists of sensors and gateways. I will provide you with an overview and a comparison of the currently available LoRaWAN gateways, as well as how to select them. Because most gateways use the same chips and should have similar ranges, I will not test it. Still, you will see big differences in capabilities, software, and price.
In this video I compare 5 different technologies and show, how they compare if you power 3.3 volt devices like the ESP8266 or the Arduino Pro Mine 3.3 volt.
Technologies used:
Reference: Alkaline non-rechargeable battery
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd)
Nickel Metal Hybrid (NiMH)
Lithium Polymer (LiPo)
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4)
I compare their capacities compared to their volume and also how we connect them to our 3.3 volt devices.

Measuring current is simple. Right? You just take a multimeter, connect it to the two cables, and read the value.
If you want to do the same with a Microcontroller like an Arduino or an ESP, things get a little more complicated. Let’s dig into it to see how it works! And which is the best sensor for our projects?

If your soldering station does not work anymore it is possible that you have to replace the heating element. I show here how you can diagnose and replace it if necessary.

Over the years, the ESP32 became everybody’s darling because of its unique features, low price, and availability also in Corona times.
It was introduced six years ago. So it is pretty old in electronic terms. Therefore, the question: Do we have to change? And for which processor?

When I got these new RISC-V ESP32 boards in my mail, I asked myself: Is this new technology revolutionary as written everywhere? What are the advantages for a typical Maker? Time for a closer look. But pay attention: It will be a rough ride and not for the fainthearted because we will talk about “stacks,” “IP,” “ecosystems,” and a lot about standardization.
If you hang on till the end, you should have enough knowledge to impress your boss. But maybe you will not be happy.

SD cards in Raspberry Pi computers wear out and die after a while because they are not made for computer usage, and many write cycles. In addition, the SD cards can become corrupted if the Pi loses power without a proper shutdown. We have several possibilities to avoid this disaster. Only one is simple and cheap. But, unfortunately, it has its caveats. So let’s get an overview and use a nearly unknown Raspbian feature to help us solve the problem.
