----------------------------
The way to a good life is to live life based upon principle and virtue.
Christianity not only describes the 7 deadly sins of human nature but also illustrates perfectly the antidotes of defeating these form of sin through acts of principle and virtue:
1. pride / humility
2. greed / generosity
3. lust / chastity
4. anger / patience
5. gluttony / temperance
6. envy / charity
7. laziness / diligence
Nevertheless, the nature of sin and its forms run even deeper then this.
We could say that the 7 cardinal sins are of battles we deal with within the personal subjective world of our own existence through-out life. But separate to this are the 7 social sins, the 7 social sins are those which are committed in relation to social enterprise and convention which can undermine the integrity of innovation and societal pursuit on a collective level.
These 7 social sins formulated by Frederick Lewis Donaldson are:
1. Wealth without work.
2. Pleasure without conscience.
3. Knowledge without character.
4. Commerce without morality.
5. Science without humanity.
6. Religion without sacrifice.
7. Politics without principle.
Donaldson’s list of social sins does not stand in simple contrast to the seven deadly sins; the latter are not merely individual transgressions. The two lists are related in a more complex way.
Each social sin recalls how our sinfulness produces a certain “without,” which infects a major sphere of human existence — wealth, pleasure, knowledge, commerce, science, religion, politics — so that it opposes human flourishing. However valuable each of these spheres may be, none remains safe from the possibility of cheapening and corruption.
We misuse these lists when we apply them simply to criticise other people and not to examine ourselves first and foremost. Both lists like this help us recognise that all of us are trapped in sin and can be raised to genuine life only through the grace and mercy of God.
Reflection on both of these lists is a worthwhile practice, doing so will keep ourselves centred on virtue and principle, it will bring us closer to God through the recognition of our own sin which shall gift us with humility in the face of God through our daily lives when it comes to work and the development of our own relationships through integrity and virtue.
“Without error and sin there is no experience of grace, that is, no union of God and man.” - Carl Jung

In this video I make an inquiry into the behaviours that have been found during the pandemic, by looking at aspects of Carl Jung's psychological types (typology // functions) within introversion and extroversion, and using my own philosophy // perspective, I partake in analysing conformity, scepticism, radicalism and blind faith found during the pandemic and ask the question: why has such a psychic epidemic occurred today?
Credit: Thanks to @Cogitatio on my Discord for the interesting discussion on Jungian typology and contributing//collaborating to elements of the video :)
