Here is Mickey Doherty's version of 'The Flogging Reel," which was originally based on the Scottish reel, "The Flagon." So it's gone from alcohol to corporal punishment. Sorry for the mistake the third time through.

Three jigs from Donegal sources. The first is from James Byrne (can be heard on The Fiddle Music of Donegal, Vol. 2); the second and third are both from Danny O'Donnell, and are on the (out of print) LP The Donegal Fiddler. By the way, "Paul Ryan's Dream" was so called by Danny O'Donnell before the politician was out of diapers! I just happen to like the tune very much!
The James Byrne tune has a lot of meaning for me because he passed away prematurely, a great loss to Donegal music, and I was in the audience when he recorded this. That week I was also in his class, and made a trip out to his house for a lesson. I'm sorry I didn't make another trip to Donegal before he died.
Here's the man himself paying the tune: http://www.donegalfiddlemusic.ie/sounds/player-home.htm?cd2-16.mp3

A set of reels inspired by Mickey Doherty, but which he got from Paddy Killoran. I actually heard this from Paddy Killoran on YouTube the other day and got me thinking about it. Here is Paddy himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMknYn1MOcI
