Little video of our sunset walk at Albany Bulb in the East Bay. Took the camera out with the new Vello ActionPan for video and used my Vello timer, ND filters and newish Canon 16-35 lens for the long exposure shots.

BMX age rules are different than cycling and other national sports. In BMX, you race the age group of your current age. in Cycling and Triathlon, you race the age that you will be by the end of the year. That means one week you will race someone, a birthday happens and you no longer race them, until the other person has a birthday and you're technically the same age. Chappy had been racing with Kade and he was crushing it. Once he turned 6, Chappy got a turn for the top spot. On January 9th we also had a smaller field of 5 and under Novice riders. No Kade, smaller field and Chappy getting stronger and faster meant that he got his first podium. Chappy Hines was able to compete in the Door County Kids' Triathlon in Egg Harbor, WI. Being a USAT sanctioned event, he was placed in the 6 year old age group. This is the youngest someone can be for this event. Distance Covered Swim = 50yd Bike = 1/2 mile Run = 1/3 Mile Chappy placed 6th out of 18 overall and 6th out of 10 for the boys. He enjoyed it and can't wait to do another one. Now we just need to teach him how to swim. Going into Wednesday night races, we knew moving into Intermediate would be tough transition. The last 6 times Chappy raced, he picked up a win. Now that he's an intermediate, he's learning the kids are faster and he will most likely have to race older kids unless it's a big race like a Gold Cup or National. We showed up to Winnebagoland expecting to have a 7i class, but with two six year olds in the house, it meant Chappy would be in 6i. When only 3 people make up a class, they run three times and it's based on the points/place you finish each time. Chappy had amazing starts, but just wasn't able to hang onto the older kids. Chappy started racing strider/balance bike at 2 1/2 years old at Rad Canyon BMX. He started his pedal career at the indoor track in November, 2021. It's been a fun journey of ups and downs as we didn't know if he'd get the drive to win a race. On January 9th, 2022 he got his first win in 5 & Under Novice, but was super inconsistent. After indoor season ended, Chappy was scared of racing the big hill/track and wouldn't race. So, with @Connor Fields doing a clinic in Salt Lake, we thought it'd be a great opportunity to dust off the cobwebs and conquer his fear. From that point forward he's been getting faster and faster. He's raced and won in Utah and Wisconsin. Racked up two National wins and made many friends. We're so proud of what he's been able to accomplish this last year and look forward to supporting him through Intermediate.
