For the most part, when I am "on vacation" (from my normal life of being on vacation) I like to get in at least 1 beach per day. Ideally, this will be a new beach that I have not been to yet. Some days though, I'm lucky enough to find such an awesome beach that I go back again for another look. This morning, just after leaving my little hotel, I went for a nice walk in the morning, then drove to another beach and finally, headed across the bridge that connects the Island of Phuket (most accurately Koh Phuket) to the mainland of the Kingdom of Thailand. I took a nice long motorbike ride up through the mountains of Koh Phangan to the North East side to one of the many awesome little village with pristine sand; a beach paradise. Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach is where I gratefully ended up. However, during this experience I was reminded of just how detrimental all of this global nonsense has been on the tourism industry. Its especially noticable when in a village that is about 95% reliant on Foreign Tourism. With Thailand's borders still closed the result is ZERO people on beaches. That part I like. During this walk and talk I thought I'd take you into a "ghost resort". I really hope that these people in this town can survive through this and end up in a more prosperous time soon. BUT, of course, smoking Hope-ium rarely has concrete results.
