CHAPTER 3: DIRTY SECRETS
Garrett is looking for a book somewhere below the city where the House of Blossoms, the classiest whore house in The City resides. Garrett just needs to find this brothel, then the book, and finally leave.
100% loot and collectibles.
You can just as well enter the House of Blossoms through the front door by pulling the lever since it leads to the same place the "sneaky" route does with one extra sleepy guard you can simply walk past, but it takes around the same amount of time because the doors (there's another one after the first one) open very, very slowly, hiding a loading screen and I just figured it's more entertaining to watch a character move and climb and sneakily use a "secret" entrance than watch a character stand in one place for a minute while doors open.
On easier difficulties with no optional challenges selected you can make the brothel part ridiculously easy by knocking everyone out in one fell swoop. In the locked room behind the opium tank is a passage that leads to a box you can deactivate with the wire cutters, and then all you need to do is pull the lever next to the opium tank where one of the girls is working and there you go, everyone's unconscious. This doesn't work on Master difficulty or with the "no harming civilians/guards" extra settings since the opium will knockout civilians and guards, but no matter. I mean, what kind of sneaking game would it be if there was nobody to sneak by? It is, however, the easiest way to get that one trophy for environmental knockouts.
Usually I record runs of levels that even a complete amateur could just copy outright and successfully complete the same way as I do, but the brothel part in this video is not possible to be played out the EXACT same way I did with the EXACT same timing because there was a slight AI error that forced me to change my plans on the fly, but the error worked in my favour because my original plan would've taken half a minute longer and looked dumber.
That one peep hole I didn't look through? Through it you can see one of the blossoms riding cowgirl on a client. I figured it's a bit too risque to show on YouTube, that's why I skipped it. It's a shame I'm not a sad teen learning new things about my body without the Internet anymore, or this game and that peep hole in particular might've felt like God sent on the quieter evenings. Unfortunately I grew up at some point, don't exactly know when.
That one glowing bit on the wall in the secret room in the library is a focus point, an upgrade for focus powers that I don't use for the obvious reasons. Maybe if the passive power of increased zoom works regardless of the extra settings I could upgrade it, that could be of some use, but I doubt it.
I don't care what some people say, the towers are

Sir John runs around pointlessly.
That's the trouble with recording the first playthrough with this game, I don't really know what to do or where to go so it's mostly nothing interesting, but I still have to show you what happened because there might be deaths, new enemies or new areas.
I would suggest you stop watching the playthrough right now and go do something else with your time.

Batman is a little out of breath by now, what with him having fought a quarter of the city's criminals, sharks, undead and some electronics tonight with certain death running in his veins, but he's so close to getting a chance to draw some blood from Ra's('s?) nose now that he just keeps on trucking. And beating up sandpeople in his dreams.

Here's a speedrun of MDK I did just for fun after recording the walkthrough. I don't remember exactly why, I just did it. I think I just wanted to play it more, but faster.
It's segmented, so every level was recorded separately. In the last level I saved at the start of the level instead of before it, because that's the only way to carry over the item pickups from the previous level. Easy difficulty, because it's the fastest.
I used dgVoodoo to access the best graphics.

I installed Aureal A3D patch for Direct3D audio. I don't know if it works, I'm not a very good audio listening guy. I usually notice if the game has sound or not, but anything beyond that goes out the other ear.

I also installed a widescreen patch. What it does is just resize the screen to proper 16:9 and in doing so cuts off a small portion of it, especially from the sniper screen. Nothing important for gameplay is missing, though, and it's easier to appreciate the highest quality textures this way, so it's all good.

You can see from the stats that I missed a secret, but this wasn't due to me not finding it. Oh, no, I CHOSE not to use it because for once it's a waste of time.
On the third floor main hall, to the north there are these little stairs and a door next to an alarm panel. The door leads to a terrarium with a servant walking about. Going through the terrarium leads to a narrow hall with tile floors, a camera above a turret and a guard in a nearby room. Between the camera and the guard there's a locked door you need a key for and I can't remember where it is because I've never looked for it, I've always picked it up by accident somewhere, and the lock can't be picked. This door leads to a control room where you can shut down all 3rd floor cameras, but there's also a little half-hidden switch below the northernmost camera controls that opens a secret passge back to the northernmost hall that connects the rooms with the masks, and this is the last secret of the level.
The reason it's useless is because you'll end up having to knock out at least the servant and must spend at least two moss arrows and you must find the key for the door, and your reward for all this work is nothing but ANOTHER way to enter a hallway lit with lamps, no shadows anywhere, all doors locked, a human guard and a larger "child of Karras" patrolling the very corner the door is located in and you can not climb up on the rafter in the hallway, you have to do it in the main hall or in the show rooms. You'd be practically trapped if you used it.
So you can see why I didn't waste another two or three minutes to show it. Only secret in the game I haven't "found" in this walkthrough, this secret is just shit.
The mask rooms, they have gas traps. When you step on the "carpet" it gives in and you take a whiff of deadly gas. Worst thing about it isn't actually the gas that takes a while to actually kill you, but the floor bouncing up and down making you jump against your will and make noise that can potentially alert the guards.
You can turn the gas traps off two rooms at a time in the main hall if you pick the locks on the three wall panels, but this would mean constant backtracking AND the annoying thing is that it only turns the gas off while the floor will still throw you around in the room. Gervaisius' exhibition sucks, I don't think anyone wants to see the old masks so badly that they're ready get seasick in the rooms.

Here begins my walkthrough of some recently released game called Thief that's apparently a reboot of an old series about an incredibly shy, compulsive kleptomaniac tapdancer and his troubles with women.
This is recorded on PS3. Yes, yes, I know you can't jerk off to these graphics, but I can.
This should be a 100% loot guide, which hopefully will include the city and it's nearly 400 pieces of loot as well, but I couldn't swear on that yet since at the moment I'm writing this I have only played, completed and found all the loot in the game up to chapter 3 and in all the side jobs available before it, and while so far I know how to collect everything with true stealth I don't know if at some point the game devs come and shove a blackjack up my rectum with some impossible mission. It seems unlikely at this point, but I'm not making promises to you only based on what the game has promised me.
This guide shouldn't feature any takedowns besides the ones forced on me by the game, no spamming of focus power and no alerts or kills. If it did then it would mean I've found a sneaky way to bypass the game's difficulty setting mid-game, and I'm not that smart. I also hope for less than ten suspicions raised in stats. That all means the walkthrough will probably be boring to you. Well, you're boring to me, so we're more than even.
I will also not pickpocket everyone. I hate raising suspicion more than leaving unpicked pockets, and some guards must be distracted before they turn their backs, so... Besides, the game doesn't tell me how many pockets in total could be picked in the stats, so how am I to tell how many I might've missed anyway?
So, that's all loot, all collectibles, ghost rank, Master difficulty with 800-and-something custom challenge points.
I wrote an essay here about what I think about the game so far, but deleted it all because there's no point in that yet. We'll wait until after the credits have rolled before I tell you how much it sucks compared to the original series.
