After getting 7 Kanto badges, speak with Blue on Cinnabar Island and he will go to the gym in Viridian City. The gym of Viridian City has arrow tiles that make you spin on them until you reach a stoppage square. Navigate a maze of arrow tiles and you’ll be able to take on the leader. Exeggutor will use Hypnosis to put the target to sleep and Leaf Storm to deal massive damage but sharply lower its own Special Attack stat in the process. Arcanine will use Extremespeed to strike first and Flare Blitz to deal big damage at the cost of its own HP. Rhydon will use Stone Edge that has a high critical hit ratio and Thunder Fang for a 10% chance of paralyzing the target. Gyarados will use Dragon Dance to raise its Attack and Speed stats along with Waterfall for a 20% chance of making the target flinch. Machamp will use Dynamicpunch that will confuse the target if it strikes. Pidgeot will use Air Slash for a 30% chance of making the target flinch and Mirror Move to copy the target’s most recently used move. After the battle, you’ll receive the Earth Badge and a TM92 (Trick Room). Trick Room twists the dimensions for 5 turns, which inverts the speed order of each combatant from slowest to fastest.

After meeting the legendary beasts at the Burned Tower, Suicune does not roam Johto. Instead, it will be at a random place in the game as you’ll first see it at the north portion of Cianwood City. You’ll next find it by the Apricorn trees on Route 42. Later, you’ll spot it at Vermilion City on the bridge towards the boatyard and then on Route 14. Finally, after getting the Cascade Badge, go to Route 25 and Suicune will be there to accept your challenge. Save your game before you interact with it. Suicune is on Level 40. Net Balls would be the best choice to catch it since its Water type. If you run away or defeat it, you’ll have another chance of catching it in the basement of the Burned Tower after defeating the Elite Four again.

If you have the Goronade, give it to a Goron who runs the big bang area and it will allow you to play a game of dodging bombs. The key to this game is to dodge every bomb that comes while the arrows on the floor move about. As time progresses, bombs will come in faster, so use the Pegasus Seed and Roc’s Feather to get out of harm’s way. Even if you get hit by a single bomb, you lose. Dodge all of the bombs and you’ll be rewarded with the Old Mermaid Key, which can be used to open the Mermaid’s Cave in the present time.
