When Crucible Tool released the first production run of their Curved Card Scrapers last March they sold out within hours. Not long after that, in true Lost Art Press fashion, Chris Schwarz put a post up encouraging and instructing us to make our own.
He even gave us the pattern.
But he didn't provide photos or video of the process. Here's the "lost footage."
Here is an affiliate link to the Arno scraper blanks I used: https://amzn.to/3fta7YL
When I printed the pattern I had to print it at 91% to get it to fit on the blank.
You can find the pattern and the original blog post by Christopher Schwarz here:

This is a video about how you can save time sharpening your chisels by grinding occasionally to maintain a large primary bevel and only honing a small secondary bevel during sharpening.

If you're interested in joining a small group of remote students as we build some Berea Ladderback Chairs this Spring, just send me a message at Joint Effort . net and let me know. It's a great time to get enrolled so you start getting ready for the build. Class starts right after Valentines Day, 2024.
My remote students have been hard at work shaping the parts of their Berea Ladderback Chairs.
This week they're getting started by drilling rung mortises in their rear legs.
It's a big step for several reasons.
After bending, routing slat mortises, and hand shaping the rear legs, they've invested more time in these two pieces of wood than they will in any other part of the chair.
And unlike the front of the chair, the rear legs have both rake and splay. If we want the geometry to work out, we have to be confident we're drilling every mortise at the correct angle.
So, rather than building a tilting table or changing the drill press setup for each mortise, we clamp the legs into a mobile platform. And with a small assortment of interchangeable risers, we can tilt the legs to any angle we need.
But everything depends on making sure the table is square to the travel of the bit.
This week's video...
This 2 minute video shows you how to square up your drill press table.
If you'd like to learn more about how the Mortising Platform works, you might want to check out my video series on Post and Rung Chair Geometry.

In this video, Jeff introduces the Step Jig.
He'll show us how it can be used to rotate the entire front assembly so we can drill the three different angles needed to connect the Front Legs to the Rear Legs with our Rungs.
