The Book of Boba Fett is an American space Western television series created by Jon Favreau for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise, taking place after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983) & is a spin-off from the series The Mandalorian featuring the crime lord & bounty hunter Boba Fett from that series & other Star Wars media. The series will exist alongside the other The Mandalorian spin-off Ahsoka. Temuera Morrison stars as the title character with Ming-Na Wen, who stars as Fennec Shand, both reprise their roles from The Mandalorian. After Several attempts were made at developing a standalone Star Wars film centered on Boba Fett before Lucasfilm began prioritizing its streaming series such as The Mandalorian. A potential spin-off series was first reported in November 2020 and was officially announced in December. Filming had begun by that point, and lasted until June 2021. The Book of Boba Fett premiered on December 29, 2021, and will run for seven episodes until February 9, 2022. In February 2013, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the development of several Star Wars standalone spin-off films. One was reportedly centered on the bounty hunter character Boba Fett, and would either take place between Star Wars & The Empire Strikes Back or The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi. The film was also said to explore the other bounty hunters seen in The Empire Strikes Back. In early 2014, Simon Kinberg approached director Josh Trank about making a Star Wars film & Trank made a pitch for a Boba Fett film to Lucasfilm. He was hired to direct a Boba Fett in June of that year. Trank was scheduled to announce the film at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in April 2015 & also reveal a teaser for the project, but this was canceled at the last minute after Lucasfilm became aware of the troubled production on Trank's film Fantastic Four. In May 2015, it was announced that Trank was no longer working on the film, but the film was reportedly still being considered by Lucasfilm as of August 2017. Following the financial failure of the film Solo: A Star Wars Story, Disney reconsidered their Star Wars film output. By October 2018, the Boba Fett film was no longer moving forward, and Lucasfilm was prioritizing the Disney+ streaming series The Mandalorian instead. Iger said in February 2020 that spin-offs of The Mandalorian were being considered & there was potential to add more characters to the series with the intention of then giving them their own series. Loki is an American television series created by Michael Waldron for the streaming service Disney+, based on Marvel Comics featuring the character of the same name. Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it shares continuity with the films of the franchise & takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame, in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. Loki is produced by Marvel Studios, with Waldron serving as head writer & Kate Herron directing for the first season. Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki from the film series with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong & Owen Wilson. By September 2018 Marvel Studios was developing a number of limited series for Disney+ centered on supporting characters from the MCU films. A series featuring Hiddleston as Loki was confirmed in November 2018. Waldron was hired in February 2019 & Herron had joined by that August. Filming began in January 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia, but was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed that September & completed in December. This is an alternate, "time variant" version of Loki who created a new timeline in Avengers: Endgame (2019) beginning in 2012. Because of this, he has not gone through the events of Thor: The Dark World (2013) or Thor: Ragnarok (2017), which reformed the previously villainous character before his death in Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Hiddleston expressed interest in returning to the role in order to explore Loki's powers, particularly his shapeshifting, which plays into the series' exploration of identity. Loki's sex in the series is denoted by the Time Variance Authority as "fluid", referencing the character's genderfluidity in Marvel Comics that had previously been speculated on for the MCU given his shapeshifting ability. In discussing the reveal, head writer Michael Waldron stated that he was aware of how many people identify with Loki and are "eager for that representation". Waldron compared Loki to Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs since both were adopted and love being in control. Filming began in June 2022 at Pinewood Studios and concluded in October. Dan DeLeeuw and Kasra Farahani were revealed as additional directors for the season in June 2023.
