this is genuinely my favorite big-band or orchestral piece ever written. the first time i listened blew my mind just as much as the time i listened to sightread this. i wouldn't even call this jazz. i would call this a contemporary orchestral piece

? recording/mixing/mastering process
› VIDEO: recorded full takes of bass and overhead drums, no kick drum via gopro mounted on my desk. overhead drums are the at2020 and bass is direct into umc404hd
› AUDIO: overdubbed bass, drums, and midi strings (spitfire labs) with transcribed midi notes over the F#maj9(?) chords in the middle. bass EQd so frequencies between 40hz and 4.6khz are present. drum overhead EQd allowing only between 108hz and 20khz. original track has a filter cutting everything below 256hz. limiter applied to master with a ceiling of -6db. no compression
› EDITING: manually lined up everything in premiere pro; drums, bass, and picture of the album cover put together
