I recently came across the free Format Factory software when looking to join some video files. I've found that it offers a ton of tools for converting, manipulating, and processing all sorts of files: video, audio, image, and documents etc. Plus there's some other useful tools in there. Very handy and easy to use. I'm starting to prefer it to Handbrake for basic video conversions. It's worth looking through everything you can do in one piece of software. Beware when installing: there are some checkbox screens offering up additional software that can be unchecked to avoid.

Xerxes Hodivala on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
I’ve tried the beta of cloud streaming Xbox games on Edge on a PC and on Safari on Mac in the last week. It’s superb! I was playing Halo colab with my son who was on the actual hardware Xbox and it works brilliantly. The best part is that any games you have already bought and installed on your Xbox become available for streaming play. I presume this is dependent on MS having the rights to stream the game on the service which I suppose could become an issue in the future as it has recently for GEForce Now. Very much worth a look. A one month trial of Game Pass Ultimate is currently available for £1.

Not sure how long this deal lasts, but at the moment it's £93.11, saving £46. Ted you need one of these ? I suspect Aidan and Gareth already have one. Little does Ian know! Haha. Aidan and I have one and Gareth does not! Still use mine all the time, so does Aidan. The v2 is more expensive but does more stuff - but not much more! This is a great price. I’d actually like the Loupedeck Live (https://amzn.to/3CU5NgV) now! £199 but it looks more fun!

Crowdsourced Software Recommendations
A helpful website that I've used over the years (and much better these days than it used to be) for finding alternatives to lots of mainstream software and services for all platforms. Punch in a piece of software or an online service and it spits back all sorts of other options in the same realm. The results are generally a good mix of open-source and paid alternatives. The site has introduced me to a lot of software and services that I didn't know existed. Handy link to have in your bookmarks to browse on a rainy day... or when you're thinking about abandoning Google services for the millionth time ?

Something a little bit different. The Rolson Tools Helping Hand is a little device that I realised I needed over Christmas. This desktop tool comprises of two crocodile clips and a magnifying glass that allows for adjustment. A result is a little tool that can help hold items in place if you are untangling, gluing, soldering or painting items that are just too small or fiddling for the fingertips. Or perhaps you simply need a third and fourth set of hands.
