Interesting, another unofficial sequel to the 16-bit Sonic games. I think we've seen this premise before, but I enjoy all the different timelines presented through the stories in these fan games! This time around, a mysterious island has appeared out of nowhere, Jex Island. This island carries a massive amount of energy through the Jex Gem. Of course, a certain evil bald dude has caught wind of the island's mystical power. And so, Sonic and Tails must stop him once again. The visuals are nice in this one, I'm liking the backgrounds a lot (though the colors could use some balancing for added depth). Sonic plays great himself, as he probably should with any fan game that aims to be a sequel of the classics. Sonic J didn't disappoint really ^^ hopefully this project continues on! Welcome to Sonic Classic Revisited, a fan game that you'll have to revisit... why? Because you probably won't beat it on your first try, haha. Anyway, what can you expect from this one here? First of all, we have a decent rendition of Angel Island Zone, a zone that has always been one of my favorites! Visually, it just stands out over the other tropical zones. Welp, the difficulty is up there (like I pointed out). The only way to cross some paths is to use the super peel-out, which allows you to walk on water. Yes, you'll need to take advantage of this mechanic in order to progress (which is easier said than done, not gonna lie). There are also blind jumps here and there, which only adds to the challenge. So, you might have some trouble if you decide to give this one a go - if you're new to Sonic I wouldn't recommend it. But hey, if you're up for challenging yourself, I won't stop you! Though the level design could definitely be improved, Classic Revisited seems like it has some potential otherwise. Sonic Triple Trouble, one of the best 8-bit Sonic games, is being remade by a fan in classic 16-bit graphics! Nack the Weasel (Fang) is set to ruin your day, and Dr. Eggman is up to his usual antics as well. Knuckles, on the other hand, is still too gullible to realize that Sonic and Tails are the good guys. The game starts out with a bang, as you defeat the Death Egg Robot with Super Sonic! But in a twist of events, Eggman gains the upper hand and the Chaos Emeralds scatter from you, rendering you powerless. Now you must get them back in order to save the world from evil once again. Speaking of emeralds, the Special Stages are super fun! Race forward in a 3D plane and catch the Chaos Emerald before Fang does. The bonus stages are a blast as well, remixing the usual slot machine trope with some pinball action. Now for the game itself, old meets new with familiar and never-before-seen zones! Great cutscenes and transitions too. As you would expect from a recent fan game, Sonic himself plays nice. The bosses here are also done well, with creative twists.
