Zero Books Manifesto:
The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.
This video is a follow-up to our celebration of the Cult of Bill Murray. In this video, we compare The Razor’s Edge to The Surrealist Manifesto. We take up an excerpt from Mikkel Bolt Rassmussen’s book After the Great Refusal as we ask the question, “Do we have to become enlightened before we can have our revolution?”

In this Livestream Derick Varn and Douglas Lain discuss the idea of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat in the works of Marx, Lenin and beyond. Why did Marx call it a dictatorship? Why should the proletariat? Why would this dictatorship "wither away"? How did really existing socialist movements understand the idea of the dictatorship of the proletariat and does the idea have any meaning for the left today?

Chris Knight is currently senior research fellow in the department of anthropology at University College, London, focusing his research on the evolutionary emergence of human language and symbolic culture. He lives in London. His book Decoding Chomsky came out from Yale University Press in 2016 and was recently released in paperback.
Since the book first dropped Chomsky has read it and has responded. Chomsky wrote:
Knight makes an assumption common to those who [are] unfamiliar with government science-technology policy and know nothing about institutions like MIT...The whole story is a wreck.

Ben Burgis discusses Tom Cotton's point that Yale is named after a slave trader. He agrees that they should change their name and suggests that it be changed to UConn New Haven--after Yale and the rest of the Ivy League is nationalized.

Chris Cutrone of the Platypus Affiliated Society discusses his essay Afghanistan: After 20 and 40 years with Douglas Lain. Put differently, the last Marxist weighs in on the invasion, occupation, and withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Excerpt from essay:
"AFGHANISTAN WAS INTENDED BY THE U.S. in the 1980s to be the Soviet Union’s Vietnam War. But it is the United States today that is experiencing a second Fall of Saigon in Kabul. If the Great Recession was the historic crisis of neoliberalism, then the U.S. loss of Afghanistan to the return of the Taliban marks the definitive crisis and terminus of neoconservatism. John Bolton ran screaming bloody murder when fired by Donald Trump for resisting ending the Afghanistan war, but it is Joe Biden who now rules over the U.S. withdrawal. This is not some end to U.S. global hegemony — no more than Vietnam was."
