In a written conversation, the speakers words are a direct quotation.

Think of a quotation as a mini sentence in a sentence.

Now, put it in a sentence as a quotation.
Chris says, “I like teaching you.”

This will help you remember that the first word in a quotation is capitalized.

Place the commas like this.

The exclamation or question goes before “who” said it.

If the quote is broken and continues the sentence
