Circle to Acquire Taiwan-based Web3 Infrastructure Platform Cybavo. Stablecoin issuer and fintech company, Circle, has announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Cybavo, a crypto infrastructure platform based in Taiwan. As part of the move, Circle will continue to invest in, develop, and operate the Taiwan-based company products and services. The acquisition is expected to offer a wider suite of enterprise and developer services for those building on its stablecoin as well as Web3 infrastructure. To further accelerate USDC’s expansion, Circle recently announced support for Polygon USDC on its accounts and APIs.

During one of the attempts, BTC broke above that level and marked a multi-week high. The bears stepped up at every turn and didn’t allow any increases. Ultimately, they brought BTC down to $30,000. VanEck’s CEO predicted a future price tag of $250,000 for BTC. However, he believes this could take decades. Max Keiser explained his views on why the Sen Lummis crypto bill is not going to work. Jack Dorsey outlined a new Web 5 platform to be built on the Bitcoin blockchain. ETH saw its lowest price position since March 2021 at around $1,650 Ripple, Cardano, Dogecoin, Polkadot, TRON, and Shiba Inu are in the red as well. The crypto market cap is down by $60 billion in a day and is under $1.2 trillion now.

DeVere Group's executive thinks investors will shift their focus towards riskier assets in the near future, including bitcoin. In his view, many people have taken advantage of the current situation, increasing their crypto holdings at lower prices. deVere Group CEO has been quite accurate in his predictions about bitcoin's price. At the beginning of March this year, he envisioned that the Russia-Ukraine military conflict could boost BTC’s valuation to $50,000. The asset was very close to reaching that level, registering nearly $48K on March 29.

SEBI report warned prominent public figures of being held responsible for making endorsements that prove to violate the Consumer Protection Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act, and Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) ASCI Guidelines were introduced in February this year, and taxation proposals in budget 2022-23 for the crypto sector used the term. The reference to VDA is purely for taxation purposes, and it doesn't mean the legalization or regulation of digital assets. The SEBI recommendation to make celebrity endorsement tough for crypto products is the latest in a series of strict policy decisions by Indian authorities. This follows a steep 30% income tax on digital asset profits, effective April 1, 2022.

Shayan: I'm going to be very happy to be here again Bitcoin is now consolidating at around $29K, while the RSI indicator suggests the market is in an oversold state. The 50-day and 100-day moving averages have completed a bearish crossover, which might increase the odds of lower prices. The following key levels of support for bitcoin are the $24K and $20K substantial demand levels. On the lower timeframes, the $30K demand zone failed and was broken with significant bearish momentum. This indicates that the continuation of the bearish trendline is showing symptoms of exhaustion. The market is expected to enter a mid-term consolidation phase.

Australia to Focus on Crypto Taxation This Year. Tax regulator treats crypto assets as digital property, hence Aussies who sell their digital assets, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are expected to calculate and record their capital gains or losses in their tax returns. For clarity, capital gain or capital loss is the difference between the price of an asset at the time it was purchased and the price at the. time it. was disposed of. The ATO intends to focus on three other key areas – record-keeping, work-related expenses, and rental property income and deductions. Aussies are expected to keep good records of their crypto transactions. Anyone who deliberately reports inaccurate capital gains on their crypto assets may face tax penalties from the ATO after an audit. ATO has previously warned crypto traders about the risks they face by reporting incorrect figures for tax purposes.

The move comes as part of the financial legislation mentioned in the Queen’s Speech. The organization has no plans to add any algorithmic stablecoins to the proposed legislation. South Korean regulators have launched an emergency check on trends and are currently making plans to enact legislation. Dubbed the Basic Act on Digital Assets, the proposed legislation will reportedly include consumer protection. Watchdogs want to create an opportunity for financial consumers to become aware of the risks of investing in virtual assets.

They will be non-deliverable and have to be settled in cash. Nomura to launch more derivatives related to bitcoin. Demand from institutional and private investors for such services has been growing. Nomura expects the sector to mature over time and become more regulated. Nomura became the first crypto custody bank through a new venture called Komainu in May 2018. It partnered with crypto security and infrastructure solution provider Ledger and bitcoin-specialist investment manager Global Advisors. The move was expected to unlock institutional investors’ interest in digital assets.

97% of Crypto Hacks Were Against DeFi Projects: Report. $1.7 billion worth of digital assets were stolen by perpetrators in 2022, with 97% coming from DeFi protocols. Money laundering and DeFi hacking have been the two major criminal activities on such protocols, Chainalysis’ report shows. Most stolen funds have gone to hackers with ties to North Korea. NFT Wash Trading is a form of market manipulation that artificially inflates an illiquid asset. Wallets controlled by the same entity can trade NFTs in between, giving market participants a wrong perception that the demand for the asset is higher than its actual level.

Crypto Price Analysis May-13: Ethereum, Ripple, Cardano, Solana, and Shiba Inu. ETH has recovered above $2,000 and has found good support at $1,900. ETH lost 22% in the past seven days, with the largest selling volume taking place on Thursday. There are signs of optimism that the spike in volume yesterday may indicate a possible reversal in the downtrend. XRP took a nosedive yesterday to a level not seen since February 2021 at $0.336 (Binance) The selloff was sharp, and since then, XRP’s price has recovered to some extent. Overall, it lost 25% in the past seven days. ADA performed the worst in the past seven days, losing 28% of its valuation. Yesterday, its price fell to $0.40 (Binance), where it found support, and now it sits just under the key resistance. The volume spiked yesterday but now seems to decrease, which should lower volatility.

Alan Howard’s Crypto Company Bags $70M in a Funding Round Led by Barclays and Goldman. Goldman Sachs' investment in Elwood Technologies is the first time the company has sourced outside financing and brought the company’s valuation to $500 million. The fundraising event saw contributions from several other notable investors, including German bank Commerzbank, venture capitalist Dawn Capital, and Mike Novogratz's Galaxy Digital. Elwood is optimistic that traditional financial institutions, including hedge funds and banks, will continue to maintain a strong interest in investing in the crypto space. Elwood's investment round was already in motion before the latest black swan event shredded about 15% from the global crypto market cap.
Binance Seeks to Strengthen its Legal Team. Majority of open positions are with Binance Holdings Ltd., the company responsible for all firm activities outside of the US. At the time of writing, two positions in the legal division at Binance US are taking applications. The value of all digital assets has taken a tumble of over $500 billion since the start of May alone. Many crypto exchanges are making a concerted effort to increase regulatory oversight that could prevent future tomfoolery.
European Union Could Start Testing a CBDC in 2023, ECB Executive Says. Panetta said the digital euro could boost the European economy when used as legal tender among all EU members. He also noted that the ECB and other institutions will help stimulate adoption through various tactics, including a heavy advertising campaign. Panetta said the digital euro could help preserve confidence in fiat money by helping to maintain its role as a monetary anchor in the digital age. He said stablecoins are vulnerable and have no guarantee to be redeemable at any given time.

El Salvador Invites Over 40 Central Banks for International Event on Bitcoin. El Salvador will host an international bitcoin event on Monday where 44 central banks and key financial institutions have been invited. The event will discuss financial inclusion, digital economy, banking the unbanked, the #Bitcoin rollout and its benefits in El Salvador. IMF urged El Salvador to remove bitcoin as a legal tender in January this year, citing it as a threat to market integrity, financial stability, and consumer protection. A US bill cleared by a Senate Committee in February has sought relevant departments to study the adoption of bitcoin by El Salvador and report to Congress on how it affects US interests abroad. El Salvador hosting an international conference on bitcoin adoption and other related topics. El Salvador bought the dip and added 500 BTC to the government coffers, taking the total number of BTC holding to 2,301, worth about $71 million.
Portugal to Begin Taxing Cryptocurrencies, says Finance Minister. Portugal has committed to creating a fiscal framework for cryptocurrencies. The government will examine relevant frameworks already created in other jurisdictions when building its own. The biggest difficulty in creating this framework is to properly define cryptocurrencies. Portugal’s crypto industry is seeing steady growth and adoption. Last month, the central bank gave its very first approval to a financial institution to begin offering crypto-related services. A Portuguese home was purchased using Bitcoin, without involving conversion to fiat money.
