How 3rd Parties Can ACTUALLY Work in the United States
In this week's segment of 51/49, James discusses the obvious case of why we need a third party in the United States, but also how it's possible for a third party to have a major influence in American politics, through an examination of Canadian politics.

Currently, the sad reality is that “the preferences of the average American appear to have only a miniscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.” That means we have essentially an unrepresentative and undemocratic government.

The problem with third party conversations in America is that it usually centers around presidential elections. But we have to remember, laws are not written by the president, as the responsibility of drafting and passing legislation falls to Congress. And our neighbor to the north, Canada, provides a compelling example of how third parties can have a dramatic impact on legislation.
