PN junction in itself is not a device, however its an important concept that needs to be understood before starting electronic devices and in this course power electronics devices. Normally, this topic is not given due importance in electronic courses and biasing of diode is discussed directly but that creates a vacuum in understanding of an electrical engineering student. In this video, we have gone in depth about the charge picture of pn junction at equilibrium. This is an important process which happens when the junctions are formed. However, the migration of charge carriers take place and as a consequence of it ionic charge is uncovered at the junction which ultimately creates a field of it and resulting in stopping of charge carrier movement. Also this process starts due to diffusion and eventually results in creation of an electric field which signifies the inclusion of drift in the current mechanisms.
