***"Cocteau Twins"*** was a Scottish band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by ***[Robin Guthrie](https://cutt.ly/tvKpRaT)*** (guitars, drum machine) and ***[Will Heggie](https://cutt.ly/nvKpOu1)*** (bass), adding ***[Elizabeth Fraser](https://cutt.ly/AvKpDfq)*** (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist ***[Simon Raymonde](https://cutt.ly/CvKpJR8)*** in 1983.
The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often abandon recognisable language, than on the subjective sounds and textures of verbalized emotions. They pioneered the 1980s alternative rock subgenre of dream pop.
***"Heaven or Las Vegas"*** is the sixth studio album by ***"Cocteau Twins"***, released on 17 September 1990 by **[4AD](https://cutt.ly/KvKaGFi)**.
Fraser's lyrics were more intelligible, many concerned her newborn daughter, particularly ***"Pitch the Baby"***, which is about her experience in giving birth and welcoming a child. Her vocals are the clearest, most direct they've ever been, purring with energy and life.
Continuing in the same heavenly vein as their previous album, many songs have longer openings and closings. Rather than crashing fully into a song and then quickly ending, instead the trio carefully builds up and eases back. These songs are still quite focused, though, almost sounding like they were recorded live instead of being assembled in the studio.
It's the album that could never get old.
