In this first episode of Cooking with Grandpa we make pico de gallo. A great relish that is used on mexican food and is common here in Texas.
To make it you will need --------------------------------------- 1 large tomato 1 jalapeno 1 small onion 1 bunch of cilantro (to taste) 1 to 2 tablespoons lime juice
You dice up all the ingredients and mix them well.
In this episode I go over how to light a coleman stove. This is the stove that I do most of my cooking on and they have been around for close to 90 years.

This is an experiment. Using a homemade cornbread mix where you just add water and an egg. I then bake the cornbread in the charcoal grill! Other than it sticking to the pan it was an amazing cornbread!
Cornbread Mix Recipe
-------------
1 c. flour
1 c. corn meal
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar
1 c. dry milk
2 tbsp dehydrated egg (optional, if used leave out the fresh egg)
Mix all the dry ingredients and store them for use later. This makes enough for 2 runs of the recipe.
Take 1 1/2 cups of the mix in a bag, crack 1 fresh egg into 1/3 cups of water and mix well. Add the water/egg mix to the bag and mix well in the bag. Placed in a greased pan and cook in the grill for 20 min.

In this series of video I cover how to make a top bar swarm box from free pallet wood. The build is similar to a top bar bee hive but is set to a volume that will attract a swarm of bees while still being compatible with my top bar hives to make moving the bees from the top bar swarm box to the top bar hive easier.
This same methods can be used to make a top bar hive. The difference is that you will leave the pallet boards used on the side of the box as whole boards as they measure 3'8" and are the perfect size for a top bar hive.

Setting up and lighting a 1924 Coleman Lamp
Lighting a 1924 gas powered coleman lamp. These lamps were popular during the great depression and you can still find them today. They run on white gas and put out the equivalent light to a 60w light bulb. Without electricity it was one of the few good lighting sources and one of the best low cost ones.
