Logitech Pro X Gaming Headset with Blue Vo!ce Review / Test
Today we’re looking at the Logitech Pro X Gaming Headset with Blue Vo!ce. This thing is far from a professional gaming headset. In my opinion the headphones sound is subpar, lacking any kind of life in the upper frequencies, and the low end lacking bass, and if you boost the bass in the software, it becomes loose and muddy. The microphone is a typical headset microphone which sounds terrible, but they add processing to try to fix it with the Blue Voice software.

Today we look at the Shure Beta 87a, a Supercardioid, Handheld, Condenser microphone. This mic did an incredible job at handling noise rejection, a very respectable job at background noise rejection, and it offers plenty of clarity and detail if you’re looking for that condenser tone on stage. However, the self noise is nearly 24dB, and that is just far too high for studio use, so in my opinion, this is limited to a stage microphone.

It's labor day so I wanted to take it a little easier, and being that I like E.D.C. or Everyday Carry, I figured I'd update my EDC on this channel. After all, the last time I uploaded this type of video on this channel was 5 years ago. This is not an audio related video it's about what I use on a daily basis and why I use each item.

Today I review the Behringer B-1 Large Diaphragm Condenser. This thing is boosted 10dB in the higher frequencies while the mids and lows are relatively flat. This gives the microphone a somewhat thinner, more sibilant sound. I think it may work well for singing in a mix, but it may be over boosted for many other applications.

Today I review a new entry level budget podcast microphone, the Sontronics Podcast Pro. This mic has a supercardioid polar pattern and a very healthy output for a dynamic at approximately -50dB and does a very good job at background noise rejection. Unfortunately, I find it to have a complete lack of isolation from bumps of the desk or boom arm, and I find the tone of the mic to honky and hollow sounding.

I receive questions about upgrading mics because they are distorting, but in most cases they just aren't set up properly. In this video I demonstrate the setup process with OBS but these procedures are transferable to any Digital Audio Workstation that you use.

What's the difference between an $8 and $50 XLR cable? Do $50 mic cables make your recording sound better? Why pay so much for a cable? In this video, I address those questions and demonstrate the difference in shielding and test if there is any difference in tone based on the XLR cable you're using.

NOTE 1: The frequency response measurements only cover 20Hz - 20kHz which is all most podcast producers and at home studio producers will encounter. The results may differ if you record high resolution with the intention of slowing down the audio. For most people 20Hz - 20kHz is more than sufficient.
NOTE 2: For non-reviews I typically record unprocessed audio and process in post. Here I mistakenly recorded the processed audio for my spoken word portions, and that processing was not good, so this is not a good representation of the sound of this mic. Sorry about that.
