The Risks with Upgrading Ubuntu and Alternatives to Upgrading
As with any OS there are risks with rushing to be on the bleeding edge, are your documents going to survive? What will happen if the upgrade fails? I discuss the reasons you may want to hold back, and some things to do in order to avoid loosing precious data. I also discuss an alternative to upgrading with adding repositories to your existing install in order to keep certain applications up to date.
Review of the new stable Debian release 7, codenamed Wheezy. I show the LXDE 64 bit version and some of the new changes since the previous release.
Debian stable is no where near the bleeding edge, but is ideal for a system where stability is important, such as a business server.

Xubuntu 20.04, Focal Fossa, is a Long Term Support Release and uses the #XFCE 4.14 desktop. The release notes advises users of AMD Graphics cards to wait until the first point release of 20.04.1.
There is a new core installer which provides a cut-down version of Xubuntu on an 818MB ISO file. Unfortunately, I had a lot of difficulty getting it working.
Although the normal version worked ok on my Nvidia system.

The Yeti is a professional grade USB microphone with four different input pattern selectors: Stereo, Cardioid, Omnidirectional, and Bidirectional. It has gain and volume controls on the body of the mic. It was plug-and-play with Ubuntu 12.04.
I purchased this Yeti from Amazon for £82

Looking at a news story from ZDNet talking about how many security stories about Linux are blown completely out of proportion. Many recent vulnerabilities only affect very niche insecure setups or years old software.
