Don’t be scared by this! It’s both very tasty, and easier to cook than it looks.
Total cook time - about 5-7 minutes.
1) add oil to pan, then add everything but rice cakes and stock.
2) chop chop chop!
3) add rice cakes, cook slightly more, add just a touch of stock. Let thicken a little.
4) make a well in the center, add stock bit by bit (similar to making a risotto)
5) when all stock is absorbed, and consistency is what you want, dig inn!

When you're in Japan, perhaps THE best thing to do is HOT SPRING.
Hakone is a great place for it. It's a very nice area, but just be aware, RESTAURANTS CLOSE EARLY (around 5-6pm). Hotel restaurants stay open later. And if you're lucky enough to be near a 7-11, they're usually open 24 hours.
If you get a chance, take the Romance Car. It's a very comfortable ride.
Recommended food: soba noodles at Soba-kiri, BIG toast at Cafe Renoir.
ALSO: EXPECT CASH ONLY at most places!!
