One of the more unique and distinct elements of 2d20 Star Trek is the Extended Task mechanic, which allows a singe central question to have its own separate beats of beginning, middle, end, reversal, and a dangerous sprint to the finishline.
You can find the ongoing writeups of "Repatriation," the TOS-Era one shot I ran and featured in this video, here on my blog: https://complexgamesapologist.wordpress.com/
The one shot is uploaded in its entirety here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5chN0sR9u-I
Pathfinder-Interested Folks: I plan to cover the end of universal AOOs, the new Critical hit/fail mechanic, and the new proficiency system (the end of skill ranks) coming up next week.

So you've probably heard by now about this one. Or at least seen the reshares. Some additional context will be provided herein.
Y'all know I DO make videos about 'what's a good feat' and 'what's a bad feat.' You know what? I might go against my own advice sometimes. I think it's good to know what the best is, because I enjoy that informed choice to step away from that. So yeah, I'll keep making videos that include optimization mindsets because I think understanding those thresholds about 'good' vs. 'bad' options serves all preferences, even if that's to see when a player couldn't care less.
In the challenge-based culture of play close to the center of gravity of Dungeons & Dragons, the sensibility of creating inept heroes is gaining some acceptance. Meanwhile, lots of groups have found the means to play ambivalent to system mastery or decide with each session zero what the focus and assumptions of *this* campaign will be.
Speak to your preferences as you begin a campaign, and find a consensus about which ideas the campaign will work to serve...
Oh, and don't assume too much about someone else's game when they speak to how they play. Maybe ask.

When should a character just 'know' things? when can't a character 'know' things. Do you roll to hit the broadside of a barn? Do you roll to see around a corner? Who your character is, and where you are...what you're trying to do, determine a great deal (for me) about when the dice play. And if you look in the player's handbook, you may discover some very interestingly explicit text to back me up on this one.
Some examples come from further afield in the person of Luke Crane's First edition of Burning Wheel, Matt Finch's Old School Primer, and Apocalypse world.

A quick recap of where the channel has gotten, and what is to come, and what my goals are for the channel.
Sometime, I may do an essay about my aesthetic, and why I'm making the videos the way that I am (which is becoming better with practice). In the meantime, I think you may find that I'm Jump-cutting less as I have fewer instances of stutters, pauses, and 'filler speech' to cut out as my spoken word chops improve.
However, Until I get a second camera, I make no excuse for jumpcutting, as I think Stuttering and 'politicianese' is the enemy of brevity, and Brevity is the soul of success on YouTube. Especially since so many folks are only listening to YT while they're up to chores, driving, walking, or playing video games.
And yet, I do want you to watch with your eyes. Hence, my commitment to adding visual polish and fun to the video rather than simply posting a talking head.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A 'CONNECTIVE TISSUE' session and is not super exciting! this links 'High and Dry' with 'The Faldor Misadventure' (which comes next.
In this connective chapter where I manage to set a new GM record for 'um's' and 'uh's,' the crew of the Achilles leaves Walston Behind and makes for Bowman, where a tantalizing offer is made.
This is the Third Chapter of out Mongoose Traveller Actual Play.
