#Part - Analysis: Gada Special Economic Zone - GSEZ There are several reasons why the idea of establishing Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including the Gada Special Economic Zone, might not be feasible in the Oromia region, especially along the Finfinnee, Mojo, and Adama Corridor, as well as in the areas surrounding the city of Finfinne/Shaggar as it is evident from the map and ground that the most tips opposite borders of Oromia along the Gurage Zone of SNNP and North Shoa of Amhara Region is very close to each other and very tight. Here are six key reasons: 1. Infrastructure Challenges: The current infrastructure in these areas might not be sufficient to support the development and functioning of SEZs. Adequate transportation, utilities, and facilities are essential for attracting businesses and investors. 2. Land Use Conflicts: The proposed locations for SEZs might coincide with existing land uses, such as agricultural activities or residential areas. This could lead to conflicts over land allocation and potentially displace local communities. 3. Environmental Concerns: The establishment of SEZs can have significant environmental impacts, including pollution, deforestation, and resource depletion. The regions in question might be environmentally sensitive areas that need to be preserved. 4. Local Economic Impact: There's a potential risk that SEZs could disproportionately benefit external investors rather than the local population. Ensuring that local communities benefit from the economic activities within the SEZs is crucial. 5. Cultural and Social Factors: The regions around Finfinnee/Shaggar may hold cultural or historical significance, making it important to consider the potential impact of SEZs on local traditions, heritage, and ways of life. This may even result in splitting Oromia to East and West, which makes similar with the infamous 'Addis Ababa Integrated Master Plan, that fueled the Oromo Protest and finally leading to the end of the three decades long TPLF/OPDO/EPRDF rule in 2018. 6. Regulatory Challenges: Establishing SEZs involves creating a suitable legal and regulatory framework. If these frameworks are not well-defined or are difficult to implement, it could lead to confusion and hinder the success of the SEZs.
