If you’ve ever wondered what happens on a movie set after the director calls “Cut!” award-winning writer/director/producer Jerry London is here to tell you. London has worked with many of the top stars in Hollywood — from Lucille Ball, Glenn Ford and Rock Hudson, to Mary Tyler Moore, Burt Reynolds, Liza Minnelli and more. This seasoned Hollywood insider has written a book entitled From I Love Lucy to Shogun...and Beyond: Tales from the Other Side. Filled with revealing, behind-the-scenes stories of competing egos, exotic locations, big money productions and Hollywood folklore, it offers an insight only a rare few ever get to experience. This evening, London will be joined by his writing partner, Rhonda Collier. They will share some of the antics that occured on movie sets when the cameras weren’t rolling.

San Francisco Opera's Dramaturg Emeritus Kip Cranna will share his 40 years of experience as he explores the wonderful world of opera, using video examples (with English subtitles) to illustrate how opera got started and how it continues to have such power to stir our souls and touch our hearts. No previous experience necessary. Just watch, listen, and enjoy. Cranna has served on the staff of the San Francisco Opera for over 40 years, 30 of them as Director of Music Administration. He has managed the commissions or co-commissions of more than 20 new operas. He lectures and writes frequently on music, and teaches at the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at U.C. Berkeley and Dominican University.

He received the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for his biography of Bernard Herrmann, the composer most associated with Hitchcock. Steven’s over-200 documentaries include collaborations with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Stephen Sondheim, Julie Andrews, Cicely Tyson, Harrison Ford, and Sidney Poitier. He is the author of the award-winning biography Music by Max Steiner: The Epic Life of Hollywood’s Most Influential Composer.
