Why is L Black in the Netflix Death Note Live Action Film?
Recently the cast list was announced for the netflix produced Death Note live action movie and many fans were shocked to find that everyones favorite character L is being portrayed by a black man. Some fans remained optimistic while others completely flew off the rails stating that in adaptations the character should look just like the character they are based on, which is anything but true. Adaptations always make departures, the goal is to ensure that departure does not harm the integrity of the film.
L is known to be the smartest man in the world and fact is, there’s no way they will make L a stereotypical black male or dumb down the character in anyway. Will he be the L we all know and love? Time will tell, but my eyes based on the actors chops and ability we have nothing to worry about.
Plus if you’re worried that much, the anime and Japanese live actions, which also did correctly cast the characters ethnicity is still here for your enjoyment. But that’s my opinion, what do you guys think of the news? Should L always be pale? Sorry for the rhyme haha!
