Asahi Linux Impressions After 2 Years as a Daily Driver
I started using Arch Linux under Asahi Linux on a M1 Mac Mini in March, 2022. It was the first alpha release. I have continued to use Asahi Linux as a daily driver to produce the videos on this channel. In August of 2023, I migrated from Arch Linux over to Fedora 39 KDE. Which I am still using today. KDE is 5.27 not the 6.0.x version which has become available at the end of February. These are my thoughts on the amount of progress the Asahi Team as made in 2 years and my thoughts about using it in my daily workload.

I was watching QuikTech Solutions, Cajoling Technologies and TVJay streaming simultaneously using SRT to push their videos to Tony over at QuikTech who sent them on to You Tube. You Tube does not current support SRT, as Tony indicated. I got to wondering if I could make SRT work just using the standard hardware I always use to display a video in the background of my set, I currently use VLC to do this, and would like to try a live method so I can vary the videos in the background based on the topic I am covering so I set to work.
And this live stream is the presentation of what I did.
This is an excellent panel discussion and demonstration using SRT by QuickTech Solutions, Cajoling Technologies and TVJAY

Today, I am doing something new, a 3-minute look at bcacheFS, a new file system making its debut into the Linux 6.7 kernel. BcacheFS is based on the bcache, caching system which has a project started by Kent Overstreet in 2015. File systems take a long time to mature because of the complexities of managing data without data loss.

It has been two years since I looked at the Stratis File System. Can this file system be the one to replace XFS, EXT4, or BTRFS? Today, I take an engineering approach to looking at some of the features in Stratis File System and put it to the test against the incumbents to see which one is better.

This video took me a bit longer than I had planned for it to take, but here it is I am covering the recent announcements from Intel, Intel Foundry Services, RISC-V International as well as the latest announcement from ARM (SoftBank Group and NVIdia) regarding the merger. As usual I put the back story in what is leading up to all the events taking place, some of the risks involved, and well just. some excitement in the industry I haven't seen in quite some time.

In this episode of the CyberGizmo I am revisiting Fuchsia OS version F4 released on December 9, 2021. Based on your feedback. I have added this second video. The video shows how to preflight, download, configure and compile Fuchsia and then I will take you a short tour of some of its unique features. A short story, I was woking on a prototype on my own to develop an edge based collector for our existing system, and when I showed version 1 a former Air Force Colonel said "This sucks where is the graphical user interface?" I tried to explain to him that GUI take more time than I was given, and I needed to get approval before proceeding any further. He said, get me graphics or its a no-go...So a few month later I put a GUI around it, and his only comment was...Wow.... If you are expecting to see a finished, polished and functional GUI with Fuchsia, not going to happen here. Fuchsia is in a development mode for the initial build out. But hey look on the bright side maybe you could do a few months of work and we will all go "Wow!".

Solus 4.2 is a beautiful Linux distro with a first class set of utilities to manage the look and feel, helping you to get it just the way you like. Its a modern OS which has the ability to handle the latest hardware from AMD, Intel and Nvidia.
In the course of today Solus review lynis reported an error, that the root account did not have a password, I submitted a bug report to the Solus Dev Team and they are working on a fix. Until this fix comes out, you may want to manually edit your /etc/shadow file and place a '!' in the password field is the one next to root: this will prevent any other application which reads the /etc/shadow from inadvertently granting root privileges.
Some discussion below on how the /etc/shadow file works.
The problem as I see it is an empty password field in /etc/shadow is interpreted as the user may login without having to authenticate, the shadow man pages goes on to say "However, some applications which read the /etc/shadow file may decide not to permit any access at all if the password field is empty".
There are two methods that /etc/shadow can use to block a login from an account with no password, it may use a "*" or a "!",
An exclamation mark is used to lock the account while a "*" is used to prevent a user from using a password to login. This is documented in the shadow (5) man page.

Watched a couple of videos over the weekend on removing Spectre Meltdown mitigations from Linux machines to reclaim performance, so this is my reaction to doing that.
