Te Whatarangi Dixon is a man with much "Mana' (The Maori word that means to have great authority, presence to command respect).
Despite his relative youth at age just 30 he has twice already stared his own mortality in the face.
He was the victim of Guellain Barre Syndrome or GBS for short. Guillain-Barre ) syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms.
These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralysing your whole body. In its most severe form Guillain-Barre syndrome is a medical emergency and in this case is what severe and meant Te Whatarangi was months in hospital.
The exact cause of Guillain-Barre syndrome is unknown. But two-thirds of patients report symptoms of an infection in the six weeks preceding. These include respiratory or a gastrointestinal infection or Zika virus.
Te Whatarangi lost all control over his body and literally watched his body fail and start to die while his brain remained fully conscious. The fear, the uncertainty, not knowing if he would live or die or if he lived if he would ever have any quality of life again or be trapped in a body that no longer worked sent Te Whatarangi through a long night of the soul. But he eventually emerged. Stronger, more resilient, more empathetic and more driven that ever before.
This is a comeback story of survival and of love. The importance of family and how they helped him through. Te Whatarangi is now a qualified neuro-physio and knows exactly what his patients and clients are going through. He knows the battles they face and he guides them back on the path to their goals.

Andy Blow is a sports scientist and co-founder of Precision Fuel & Hydration. He earned his degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Bath. His expertise is sweat, dehydration, and cramping. He was formerly the team sports adviser for the Benetton and Renault and remains the Porsche Human Performance Centre adviser.
An elite athlete in his youth, Andy finished in the top 10 of Ironman and IM 70.3 races, including winning an Xterra World title. His struggles with cramps and dehydration led to his specialisation in electrolyte replenishment and building Precision Fuel & Hydration. QRI Laser Bonnie Brandes a former teacher of children with learning disabilities, autism, down syndrome, dyslexia, ADHD, cerebral palsy who discovered the benefit of reintegrating primitive reflexes and the help and relief this bought the children and their families. I have been exploring the use of this device in my mum Isobel's rehabilitation journey as I became aware after studying some of the reflexes she was exhibiting and ways to reintegrate them.

Starting and finishing in Havelock North Village, MCL Construction TRIPLE PEAKS will include spectacular terrain, that has never been experienced in the event before. Be prepared to be impressed.
Traversing Mt Erin, Mt Kahuranaki and iconic Te Mata Peak, the course will cross private land, and take in some incredible breathtaking Hawke's Bay scenery. The course is rugged, testing and very rewarding. Enjoy beautiful ancient woodland, craggy ridgetop views, scenic farmland, fun single track, gravel road and a few hearty crossings of the Tukituki River.
Solo Competitors
Solo competitors will complete the entire 50 km course.
Relay Teams
Leg 1: MT ERIN (distance TBC - between 13-15 kms)
Exact details to be confirmed. Participants on leg 1 will depart Havelock North Village en masse, and be guided through the streets of Havelock North until reaching the hills. Then it's all go! Passing through historic Kopanga Station, competitors will then enjoy a steady climb to the top of Mt Erin (489 m), and then a fast, fun descent to the Tukituki River, at Rochfort Road.
Leg 2: MT KAHURANAKI (distance TBC - between 20-22 kms)
Exact details to be confirmed. Participants on leg 2 will gently climb up from the Tukituki River transition, across farmland (thus avoiding the tar sealed section). Upon reaching the access road to Mt Kahuranaki, participants will head up to the 646m trig, where they will then enjoy a fun, fast descent back (on a different route to the uphill track) back down to the River to cross at the same point as transition 1.
Leg 3: TE MATA PEAK (distance TBC - between 17-20kms)
Exact details to be confirmed. Participants on leg 3 will ''take the baton'' at the Tukituki River crossing, and then traverse beautiful farmland on the western side of the Tukituki. Upon reaching the base of Te Mata Peak, competitors will ascend to the 399m trig along beautiful single track, and then weave their way back down to the Village through Tainui Reserve and Keith Sands Grove, enjoying impressive views, beautiful native forest and fun trails along the way.
