This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the various consoles I own.
Before some uber 1337 shmup fanboy come on this vid and tells me I'm wrong, and how this is the worst game he's ever played (as I've had a few do, like the elitist turds they are), let me start by saying that this isn't the greatest shmup on the PS1. There are a ton of better ones on the system to choose from, and this one comes off as a little generic by comparison despite having some cool features. It's also fairly short as shmups go having a mere five levels, and shmup fans will probably blast through it with ease.
That being said, this is still a completely solid shmup experience, and is the cheapest shmup on the system. I got my complete copy of the game for $6 after shipping.
The game has some cool ideas at play. Granted, the story elements which I skip in this vid are cheesy, but the actual gameplay (despite being poorley played by me) has number of cool ideas at play like the boost and missile lock system (thin Panzer Dragoon). It also features a cool little training mode where you have to kill an onslaught of enemies using different stipulations. For example, you may be forced to kill enemies using only your boost, your missile, or be required to avoid enemies altogether. It adds a little more replay value to this game.
Overall, this game was another generic budget title released near the end of the PS1 lifespan, and while it's not the greatest shmup on the PS1, it's well worth the extremely cheap price if you have an interest in the genre. It doesn't redefine anything, and it may even com off as a little generic, but it's still a solid shooter experience.
Shooter Space Shot is only available on the PS1.
