WSO claims it's impossible that the eclipses seen in August and again a few days ago on October 30th were due to the moon because they occurred in different directions relative to the sun. That sounds sensible and logical, but is it? Tonight we test to see if it really was the moon, or something else.

There seems to be a common misconception that the Artemis I launch should have appeared to fly directly to the moon. Since I tracked the launch and also captured Orion one orbit after launch and again one day after launch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MDBAv-JvmE ) I can use these observations to calculate the orbit of the Orion capsule just after TLI but before the first mid-course correction burn. I imported the orbital elements from my observations into Orbiter Spaceflight Simulator (http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/ ) and used a Block I SLS mod to simulate the launch while targeting the orbit I measured. This allowed me to determine if SLS and the ICPS could put Orion on that post-TLI trajectory and if it was possible for Orion to perform a close fly-by of the moon from that trajectory.

Sleeping Warrior neglected to actually show my original experiment. Here's part 1:

Here's Sleeping Warrior's video where he claims I'm a fraud and my experiment actually shows moonlight makes things colder:

You can judge the results for yourself, but this experiment does have a number of pitfalls. In this video I show you why a magnifying glass may not be the best way to concentrate and measure weak amounts of far infrared light...

Music: Rendezvous with Rama by Stellardrone
Captured with an 8" Meade LX200 Classic @ f/20 with help from Reds Rhetoric (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrHsrhLqowsAIYbaNE7GcBg ). Recorded with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K. Frames were automatically aligned on Jupiter and stacked using custom software in 0.5s increments (all frames within 1 standard deviation of the mean quality were accepted in the stacking process).
