30th October 2021 in Melbourne Australia. At the Kill the Bill Rally which was from the State Library with another group at Treasury Gardens, both joined together mid march on to the Parliament Steps. Dan Andrews is attempting to push through legislation that would remove the last vestiges of democracy in Victoria and turn the state into a full-blown dictatorship. The legislation would give almost unlimited power to the Premier and the Health Minister with no parliamentary oversight. Concerning elements of the bill include: • The Premier can declare a pandemic even if the disease is not present in the state of Victoria or Australia. • The parliament does not need to vote on the pandemic declaration. The power rests solely with the Premier • The Premier can extend the pandemic declaration every 3 months. There is no limit on the amount of times it can be extended • If a pandemic is declared, the Health Minister can make “any order” that they “believe is reasonably necessary to protect public health” - basically whatever they want •The Health Minister can discriminate based upon attributes of the individual, including their race, religion or political beliefs •Individuals who breach the orders can be fined $90000 or face two years in jail •There are no rights to appeal to the courts if you are jailed under this legislation This Bill has now passed the lower house.
