Prior to this you ferment the SCOBY/Kefir grains for 2-3 days in a glass jar. Utensils: 3 glass pop-top fermentation/brewing/Pilsner bottles A quart (800 ml) wide-mouth mason jar with a plastic lid 4 inch Plastic/Nylon strainer (fine mesh - do NOT use a colander with holes) Plastic spoons Funnel small enough to fit into the neck of the bottles Mason jar funnel (to rest your strainer in) NO METAL WHATSOEVER. Use plastic, glass, nylon, or silicone only! Using metal will give weird taste/harm SCOBY/kefir Food ingredients: Water kefir grains Natural (not white or table) sugar, or light brown sugar, your preference Blackstrap molasses Mineral water concentrate drops if using filtered/ RO water, or use purchased spring water I found all the utensils on eBay and Amazon. An introduction to milk kefir (kee-FEAR) fermentation. Make healthy kefir at home for yourself and your family. When you first receive milk kefir grains, they are stressed from shipping. Plop them into one cup of milk, cover, and keep in a warm place for 24 hours. Change the milk and place again in another cup of milk for another 24 hours. Repeat this four times, after which smell the milk. If you smell fermentation, this is safe to drink or use in smoothies. It may take up to eight 24 hour milk changes to notice any significant fermentation. This is normal!
