Let's discover the connection between lsd and the Eleusinian Mysteries:
There was a road in ancient Athens that led to Eleusis, where the famous and sacred Eleusinian mysteries of the Greek world took place. So begins our journey to rediscover Ancient Greece through this first episode of the Ancient Greece Revisited series.
For the centuries following their eventual end, the Mysteries of Eleusis managed to remain what they always were ... a mystery. Until, that is, a Swiss chemist experimenting with the medicinal properties of the "ergot" fungus, stumbled upon a compound destined to change the world ... LSD. After ingesting a minute quantity of his new substance by mistake, and experiencing its miraculous effects in the first recorded "trip", Albert Hofmann went on a quest to find his "child's" distant relatives, until, like the goddess Demetra who founded the Eleusinian mysteries ... he reached ... Eleusis.

Why has the Right has lost the battle of ideas? Our guest, Romain d'Aspremont, writer of "The Promethean Right" will take us on a journey from early Christianity to late post modernity in validation of his answer: that except from Italian Fascism, the Right has utterly failed in providing a positive vision of the future.

Since Plato wrote the Republic, it has been a trope of the Left to portray the Greek philosopher as "proto-fascists," for teaching that an ideal state must always lie to its citizens so as to keep the existing order. But Canadian philosopher Michael Millerman begs to differ, and through this conversation, shows that Plato might have been Right all along.

It is difficult for us to accept that an idea we hold so sacred, romantic love, did not always exist... but had a beginning. But once we dare to consider it, we are taken on a journey to France, and the renegade poets of the 12th century who weaved a tapestry out of Celtic and Christian myths, to give us a new understanding of love as both spiritual and physical. An understanding uniquely Western, yet destined to changed the whole world. An understanding they called... "Amor."

Can we compare the Ancient Greek hoplite to the Japanese samurai?
When the first American ships appeared off the coast of Japan, they found a land frozen in time... A land where a legendary sword, the mighty "Katana," reigned supreme as both an instrument of death and a symbol, one that reflected the ideals of an entire class of warrior-nobles, the "Samurai." But at the other end of space and time, the Greeks of Homer's time developed a way of fighting that reflected ideals of a different sort. Ideals that would lead to democracy. It was called the "Phalanx" and in the place occupied by the Japanese sword, the Greek soldier, called the hoplite, honoured a different weapon, one that protected his small egalitarian communities against whole empires. It was called "hoplon" or shield...
