***"Stereolab"*** are an English-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990.
Led by the songwriting team of ***[Tim Gane](https://cutt.ly/BmFnRwl)*** (guitar and keyboards) and ***[Lætitia Sadie](https://cutt.ly/dmFnYuG)r***(vocals, keyboards and guitar), the group's music combines influences from *krautrock*, *lounge* and *1960s pop music*, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French.
Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the ***[Surrealist](https://cutt.ly/imFnOlx)*** and ***[Situationist](https://cutt.ly/ymFnAt5)*** movements.
Although ***"Stereolab"*** found success in the underground music scene and were influential enough to spark a renewed interest in older analogue instruments, they have never had a significant commercial impact. Meaby the key is lost in the interview where ***Gane*** and ***Sadier*** have discussed their musical philosophy - *"to be unique for us was more important than to be good"*.
The fact is that ***"Stereolab"*** may do certain projects as a lark, but they rarely throw away tracks, as each EP and most singles have their own identity, offering a new spin on the group's trademark style.
There may be a couple of tracks on ***"Aluminium Tunes***" that never rise above the level of good but predictable ***"Stereolab"***, but the best moments rank among their very best work.
These excellent collections of singles and genuinely interesting rarities contrast nicely with the albums, providing periodic updates on the band’s most recent musical directions and filling in the many gaps in fans' collections - caused by ***”Stereolab's”*** fascination with limited editions.
***”Munich Madness”*** is the twenty-third song on the band's double album collection of EP's and rarities ***"[Aluminum Tunes](https://cutt.ly/am9iV6c)"***, released in 1998. It is the third compilation in a series of rarities collections following ***"[Switched On](https://cutt.ly/3m9ifx0)"*** and ***"[Refried Ectoplasm](https://cutt.ly/3m9ifx0)"***.

# ***The Charlatans Biography***
***"The Charlatans"*** are an English rock band formed in the **[West Midlands](https://cutt.ly/NIvCiHx)** in 1988 by bassist ***[Martin Blunt](https://cutt.ly/9IvCmt0)***, who recruited fellow West Midlanders ***[Rob Collins](https://cutt.ly/NIvCItb)*** (keyboards), ***[Jon Brookes](https://cutt.ly/wIvCJVe)*** (drums), Jon Day (guitar) and singer-guitarist ***Baz Ketley***. ***Ketley*** left the band and was replaced by singer ***[Tim Burgess](https://cutt.ly/pIvX8R9)***.
Although the ***Charlatans*** would later become popularly associated with the *[Madchester scene](https://cutt.ly/YIb7ZuY)*, the band's early demos recorded in 1988 in *Birmingham* and *Dudley* already evidenced the sound that the band ultimately became famous for, dominated by ***Collins*** *Hammond organ*.
With their fusion of 1960s *soul*, *R&B* and *garage rock*, the band saw themselves firmly in the West Midlands tradition that included Birmingham bands ***[The Spencer Davis Group](https://cutt.ly/EIvVvS7)*** and early ***[Dexys Midnight Runners](https://cutt.ly/UIvVQUl)***.
> On the band’s third album, ***“Up to the Hips”***, producer ***[Steve Hillage](https://cutt.ly/uIbTNkJ)***, who made a career ranging from wacked-out hippie ramblings in ***[“Gong”](https://cutt.ly/6IbYCwZ)*** to the clean, inspired synth/krautrock surge suffusing his production for ***[“Simple Minds”](https://cutt.ly/PIbY8y2)***, contributed to the ***Charlatans*** more active percussion, which results more in the name of guitar atmosphere than *Hammond* attention-getting.
>
> The laid-back lead single ***["Can't Get Out of Bed”](https://cutt.ly/gIv6ORi)***, lazy Exile on Main Street vibe and the equally groovy ***["Patrol"](https://cutt.ly/VIv6KHV)"*** and ***["Jesus Hairdo"](https://cutt.ly/DIv6GN7)***, showcased both of their work to good effect, especially on the breaks between chorus and verse.
>
> ***Rob Collins*** certainly still has his moments - witness the opening build to the title track, another great effort with ***Blunt***. ***Burgess*** sounds his strongest yet; while his singing still lurks in the mix more than anything else, he never disappears entirely.

***”Pixies”*** are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in **Boston, Massachusetts**. Until 2013, the band comprised ***[Black Francis](https://cutt.ly/xng3x37)*** (vocals, rhythm guitar, songwriter), ***[Joey Santiago](https://cutt.ly/Jng3zxi)*** (lead guitar), ***[Kim Deal](https://cutt.ly/nng3b1L)*** (bass, backing vocals) and ***[David Lovering](https://cutt.ly/hng3Wy6)*** (drums).
The band disbanded acrimoniously in 1993, but reunited in 2004. After Deal left in 2013, Pixies hired ***[Kim Shattuck](https://cutt.ly/Qng3OIr)*** as a touring bassist; she was replaced the same year by ***[Paz Lenchantin](https://cutt.ly/6ng3SPH)***, who became a permanent member in 2016.
Combining jagged, roaring guitars and stop-start dynamics with melodic pop hooks, intertwining male-female harmonies, and evocative, cryptic lyrics, ***"Pixies"*** are one of alternative rock's most influential bands.
They turned conventions inside-out, melding punk and indie guitar rock, classic pop, surf rock, and stadium-sized riffs with bizarre, fragmented lyrics about space, religion, sex, mutilation, and pop culture. No matter how much lyrics may have been impenetrable, the music was direct, forceful, and laid the groundwork for the alternative explosion of the early '90s.
***”Indie Cindy”*** is the band’s fifth studio album is first since 1991's ***”Trompe le Monde”***, and without bass guitar player ***Kim Deal***. Instead, bass guitar duties on the album are handled by ***[Simon "Dingo" Archer](https://cutt.ly/snh6g2y)***, a former member of the British post-punk band ***”[The Fall](https://cutt.ly/Cnh6lfY)”***.
Unfortunately, there's no doubt that ***”Indie Cindy”*** is an odd return. It plays more like a collection of B-sides than a true album, and it's laced with goodbyes and a sense of sadness that feel more like closure than catching up.
Arguably, it fares better as a decent ***Frank Black*** album than an anticlimactic ***”Pixies”*** album, and fans who can appreciate that these songs don't diminish the legacy of the band's previous music will probably enjoy it the most. (***Heather Phares***, ***”AllMusic”***)
***”Silver Snail”*** is the sixth song on band’s fifth studio album ***"[Indie Cindy](https://cutt.ly/Enkm5aH)"***, released in April 2014 under the ***”Pixies Music”***.

# ***Pavement Biography***
***Pavement*** is an American indie rock band that formed in *[Stockton, California](https://cutt.ly/kAcQ2T5)*, in 1989. For most of their career, the group consisted of ***[Stephen Malkmus](https://cutt.ly/wAcWVDV)*** (vocals and guitar), ***[Scott Kannberg](https://cutt.ly/NAcW1zU)*** (guitar and vocals), ***[Mark Ibold](https://cutt.ly/RAcW0al)*** (bass), ***[Steve West](https://cutt.ly/rAcW2Jk)*** (drums), and ***[Bob Nastanovich](https://cutt.ly/bAcW3NZ)*** (percussion and vocals).
With their fractured songs, unexpected blasts of feedback, laconic vocals, cryptic literate lyrics, and defiant low-fidelity, ***Pavement***, along with ***[Sebadoh](https://cutt.ly/bAcW7TL)***, were the leaders of the *lo-fi* movement that dominated the U.S. *indie rock* in the early '90s.
> The band’s fourth studio album, ***"Brighten the Corners"*** is calm, with none of the full-out blasts of noise that marked all of their previous releases.
> It's mature but wise-assed, melodic but complex - the record that reveals its gifts gradually, giving you enough information the first time to make you want to come back for more.
